wont start unless tb blocked PLEASE HELP!!!

1.) Are you sure that you have pip signal to the injectors?
2.) Do you get a fat blue spark at least 3/8" long?
3.) Have you checked the fuel pressure? Fuel pressure test gauges can be rented from the auto parts stores.

i just now thought of this, get under the car and beat on the gas tank quite a few times. there might be some trash in the gas tank that might be plugging the sock/strainer on the end of the fuel pump. just a thought.

I have had the fuel pump out several times, and I can assure you that the strainer is quite large. It would take several hands full of trash to obstruct it to the point that it would restrict fuel flow enough to kill the engine.

If you have any doubts about having sufficient fuel flow/pressure, rent a fuel pressure test gauge from the auto parts store. That will tell you for sure if you have adequate fuel pressure.

went through checklist, got the car running on ether.

changed fuel filter, still nothing, what should i concentrate on now???

i know now its some kind of fuel issue, so should i lean towards the fuel pump being bad? fuel pump is an electric motor, maybe when it gets hot it is shutting off, that could explain why the car runs for awhile then dies

See Jrichker's post above yours. :)

few questions for you guys:

1) fuel pump runs when key is on, fuel squirts out when i push schrader, does this mean my fuel pump relay is ok and that my inertia switch is not tripped?

2) when vaccum line is taken off FPR, should fuel be escaping or not???

1.) Use a fuel pressure gauge to tell if you have adequate fuel pressure.

2.) Fuel coming out the vacuum line means the fuel pressure regulator has failed.

3.) Best test for fuel pressure is with the engine idling and the vacuum line removed and plugged. Second best is with the engine off, ignition switch in the run position. Both should show 38-41 PSI.

the vaccuum line off the fuel pressure regulator right?

im gonna have this damn thing fixed by this weekend if i get the time

Fuel coming out of the vacuum port of the fuel pressure regulator, or fuel in the vaccum line that connects to the regulator means the regulator has failed. All that fuel dumped int the engine floods it and can wash the oil off the cylinder walls.

If you are curious, here's why:
The regulator has a diaphram with pressurized fuel on one side and vacuum on the other. The fuel side has a spring loaded valve that is attached to the diaphram. An increase in the fuel pressure causes the valve to try to close, but the spring balances it out, maintaning the set pressure. The vaccum causes the diaphram to work against the spring to reduce the fuel pressure. The balancing act between the vacuum, fuel pressure and spring work together to insure that no matter what the manifold pressure is, that the fuel pressure at the injectors is always the same. Vacuum reduces the fuel pressure and pressure from a supercharger or turbochanger increases the fuel pressure.
