Looking for 325 rwhp. Help!!!

thanks guys, i definitely want to stay N/A. is there any way i could stick with the e cam and the shorties? they set me back a good bit and from everything ive read its a good cam and they are good headers...

The shorties are not gonna hurt you

There is not a lot of difference between them & LT's up top

I have seen a "few" e-cams go to or close to 300

my best firends sn-95 has been 12.90's n/a

stock heads
stock cam
gt40 intake
1.6 roller rockers

all the other little bolt ons through a t-5 .

on et streets and prostarts ....the thing just flat out moves ..... has since move on to some bigger parts
 
The custom cam (crucial for power/streetability) matched to some well flowing heads and intake is key.

A Performer intake is plenty, hardly small. Unfortunatly many think you need "big" intakes to make "big" power. A quick check of cfm ratings shows you otherwise.

AFR 165's or AFR 185's.

Custom cam with known goals to hit 325rwhp (peak). The average powerband is probably more benefcial from 3,000 rpm and up. You may get to see past 6,000rpm before it is all said and done.

I think a ported Performer would be enough.

In my eyes, the three most critical things are:

1. Heads
2. Custom cam (Ed C cars tend to perform exceptionally)
3. Custom tune.

If you told a custom grinder thats your goal, he can make it happen. You have to pay to play. 325 for an Ed C grind as per his website.

An e-cam is not a good cam for our cars. First off the technology is 25 years old, second off its a bear to tune.

just wondering. are you speaking from experience? i have the cam and my car is untuned and dont see why people always say bad things about it. it seems most have never used the cam but yet they like to comment on how bad it is for our cars.

No I don't have an E-cam. I never will have one. The only alphabet cam I may ever have (and I can't believe I'm even admitting this but damnit the results speak for themselves) is an F cam if I ever use forced induction.

Search around and there are more negatives then positives... I firmly believe that you can do a lot better with a split lift, split duration custom grind tailored to your exact combination by a professional with decades of industry experience.

If you really want to hit 325 rwhp, I highly highly doubt you're going to do it with an e-cam. If you want to prove me wrong that would be fine with me, but you asked for advice and thats what you got. Like anything else, you get what you pay for and what I said didn't cost you a thing.

If you were looking to upgrade your computer, would you buy a microchip from 1995 or one from 2007? Even though the chip from 95 is proven to work, the performance from the modern version will be that much better.

Mechanically there is nothing wrong with an e-cam or another off the shelf cam. They are cams that have been used by thousands of enthusiasts without problems.

Does it provide maximum performance and driveability? Of course not. But how many really do?

You have to pay to play. Some would rather "play" with the extra money they save...

With an inferior cam (in most minds) like a few of those alphabet cams, doesn't mean that you are 'stupid' or 'ignorant' or are 'wanting to go slow.' It may be just what the enthusiast asked for or wants out of their budget and goal. Noone should look down upon a combo with wreckless abandon because they have 10-15rwhp less than one that spent more to get that.

It is my opinion that a 4.6L is better than the 5.0L pushrod.

Just right now at this point the market, it is more expensive the vastness of aftermarket parts and connections are not there, but growing quickly.

The 4.6L is working with less cubes, and making the same power with aftermarket h/c/i, sometimes more.

Compare a 331 and 302 (.4 cubic inch engine difference) and see how many 302's are making more power than a 331 assembled with the same principle. Hard to find eh?:)

Legalize20 - Good Point! I.E - You get a dozen roses for your girlfriend's birthday, but your friend get's his girlfriend a weekend on an expensive yacht. Which one is better? Answer: It depends on the person's finances in what he can afford and his goals:)
 
i had one. i had a 2v. i did not like it; so much so that i sold it and bought a 5.0. now i have a 6.8. if i have the 4.6 still, i'd maybe be hoping for a 5.4, and somehow i don't think i'd be looking for 450hp n/a from it.
