Nitto 555 drs

After burnin up the stock tires I wanted to get some nittos but my local tire shop talked me into Toyo TR-1s. What they left out was that YEAH they got me 275s but in only a 40 aspect. Soooooo the toyos suck at hooking AND they look dumb as hell cause they're bout an inch shorter than the stocks on the front. What I'm asking is Does nitto make a 275 in a 50 aspect ratio AND will it fit on these stock 18in rims? I occasionally do like the twistys and am wondering if i need to give that up to hook with the taller tires.

1) No and No

The only thing close is Continental make a Conti Sport-2 in 275/45R18 but it's hard to get and needs at least a 9 inch wide wheel. The 275/40R18 is not too bad in terms of over all height, lowering the car helps the look too, and there are more choices.

That sucks! I swore I've seen photos of cars with the 18" rims and tall tires. I don't want to lower the car due to clearence issues. And I'm still running the tire height up front so lowering still wouldn't help. Also stiff lowering springs aren't what you want on a drag car right? less weight transfer

Nitto only makes the DR in a 305/45/18. i am running their regular 555 in 295/45/18 on my wife's car with no rubbing anywhere, and her car is lowered with the FRPP "K" springs...

ps, everybody says the 295's and 305's need a 10" rim, i have them on 9" rims and they are just fine, Nitto runs smaller than most all other tires...

Nitto runs smaller than most all other tires...

He's 100% right. Nitto runs smaller size for size then any other manufacturer. usually by atleast 10-20 MM

I'm definantly getting those spring now thanks kooldawg.

So the concensus is I'll be ok with nitto drs 305-45-18s on the stock rims as long as I stay off it in the corners?

like i said, the Nitto's run small, so you will be fine, even in the corners, but remember, these are DRAG RADIALS, they are designed to take corners at WOT. they are designed to go fast in a straight line...and yes, they will fit on the factory 8.5" wide rims, the 295's bearly swell on my 9" rims, so yours will swell some, but to me that's what makes a mustang look like a muscle car...
