i would say $250 - $350 are going to be about the best price you could get from a good shop. about anyone can put one in but you need someone who stands behind there work with a guarantee example>>.i had a clutch,pressure plate, t.o.b. and rear seal i had bought to put in my escort (work car). a local shop did the job for $200 labor cost but before i had the work done i ensured they guaranteed their labor and they said they do. after they finished the rear seal leaked and they stood by their guarantee and removed all they installed and replaced the seal they installed wrong..i would not just let anyone install a clutch and the cheapest price is not always the best and some shops will not gurantee anything using your parts. you need to avoid these shops and thats why i do these kinda jobs myself. you can buy all the tools you need to install the clutch yourself and get all the info. free off the internet or buy a manual and come out cheaper and get experience installing the clutch..

I think they base it on 4-6 hours of work. That would be $300-$450 at a shop rate of $75/hr.
I did my own so that my labor savings bought a new flywheel (vs resurface) and my new firewall adjuster and quadrant. Overall I spent right at $500 for clutch, FWA, quad, cable, flywheel, and some new bolts for the flywheel and starter. Starter bolts were worth it. They are a 12pt head and it allowed me to use a ratcheting wrench to change my starter alone in about 30 minutes.

Just curious , did you use a lift or on your back ? Ive got to do mine and was wondering how to jack the car up high enough.

On my back man...
Actually we had the car high enough (TOPS of the 6 ton jackstands) that I was able to sit under there (crouched a bit of course) for the Flywheel through PP installation.... Made it a LOT easier...

Done a few in the drive way on my back. Not too bad especially if you have a helper. Saves a few dollars, well worth it to me.

+1 on doing it yourself. A decent set of Craftsman/Kobalt/Husky tools (200+ piece mechanic set) can be had for about the same amount as the install cost would be, assuming it's in the $300 range. The Official HOW TO THREAD sticky here in the Tech section has a great writeup by 5spd GT in post number 9.
