Whats the best way to remove the gas from the gas tank in preperation for replacing the fuel pump? (driving till empty is not an option). I tried sticking a hose down the filler tube- but cant get it far enough in. Is there any other options? Thanks!!

there is a thing in the tube to keep people from stealing it. Maybe if you disconnected the filter from one end and let it run?

I need to know too because I filled my car with 87 the other day. :nonono:

One thing we do at work which could help you is. Unhook the fuel line at the fuel rail and jump the fuel pump relay on and with a hose hooked up to the fuel line running to a gas tank or other approved container just let it flow. Or you could unhook it at the fuel filter and once again jump it at the relay, on. And with an approved container just let it drain.

If its anything like the newer ford truck chassis we use at work there is a small waffel shaped grid at the bottom of the filler tupe to prevent a hone from going in.It is only held on by 3 clips that clip to a lip on the tube. You can use a small tube and a elec pump. What we do is take a length of hose that has a pvc lining and run it down the fill tube. When it stops pull it out a bit then jab it back in.It knocks that block out so you can pump the tank.Once empty you can drop the tank and reach in and get the block and toss it or put it back on.

I can preaty much do it in my sleep now.At work once the chassis get converted to to a bus there is no access to the tank.We get people that put the wrong fuel in them all the time. And since Ford charges $700 for droping the tank and hazardous material disposal and a refill they made us figure out how to get it done

Just have a friend of yours help you if you cannot get the gas out. Me and one other guy got two Mustang tanks and a Grand Prix tank out with 3/4 to a full tank of gas. Once we got it down, we then emptied it into about three 5 gallon buckets. We put it back up empty, then fill it wit ha funnel. We only spilled a gallon maybe when the Mustang tanks shifted on us.
