Oil changes.... how often?

Yeah, Ford calls for 5k interval. I do follow exactly that, as I drive a LOT with a lot of those miles being highway. So that works out to an oil change every 3 months (or less) and I'm comfortable with that.

My '98 Jetta I bought new in '99(has sat since last November)has just over 170K miles. I bought the '06 the very end of last August and have nearly 40K miles on it now:eek: It was not intended to be my daily driver, but it is so much more fun than the 90 HP Jetta:rlaugh: These are the last two cars I've purchased. I intend on keeping the Stang on the road as long as I can with no concern about racking up the miles:nice:

For you low mileage drivers, change the oil at least every 6 months, even if you have not gone 5k miles since the last change.

Art ! I put less than 5K miles, per year on my 05GT. I also use Mobil 1 along with the Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter.

So my question is..Would it be safe to change my oil, every 12 months. Or would you still recommend changing the oil, every 6 months.

For the First 10K miles I changed it religiously every 3K miles to ensure proper breaking in.

now that i'm approaching that 10K mile mark I'll be changing the oil every 5K miles with my trusty Mobil 1 Supersyn and a Motorcraft filter.

If still under warranty, you might not be covered for engine damage if you do not change your engine oil at least every six months.

In any event, if you do not put much mileage on the car, you are probably accumulating water, acid, and other nasty things in the oil. Synthetic oil is no better than dino oil when it comes to oil change intervals for low mileage drivers.

I forgot to mention, that I change my oil. just before putting it away for the winter. Once it's in storage, I neither run or start the engine. Until the following spring, usually around mid April.

If I'm not mistaken. Fresh oil normally doesn't accumulate water, acid or become dirty from just sitting in the oil pan. IMHO it's really no different, when compared to oil sitting on the shelf for 6-12 months or longer.

I guess under these circumstances. I assumed, that perhaps it might be safe to change my oil, every 12 months..instead of every 6
