Sealing differential cover

Though already covered..............There is a rubber-over-metal gasket out there. I havent tried one yet but it looks to be a nice piece.

I also use paper and gasket maker to fill any slight gouges and accomodate any flexing that occurs (the potmetal cover flexes when you really nail it if you got some torque).

no problems there, ive got no torque :p

and i thought it was a stamped piece?

If doing it that way...I would use RTV on the cover and stick the gasket to it...them just put it on the dif...

No such thing as a dumb ??? if you never done something like this before than why not ask....everyone wants to be sure there doing it right the first time...:nice:

Andy is one of the wisest guys on here, and he proves it once again. No such thang as a dumb question. :nice:

I also use the RTV on both sides of the gasket. It's just a slight film to cover any scrapes in the metal. I let the gasketmaker skim for a few mins and then do the install. I can never line the holes up just right and I need a little bit of wiggle room with the gasket (so I dont let the gasketmaker set-up too much before installing it).
I do ensure the pumpkin is as dry (inside) as I can get it (so the gasketmaker doesnt get contaminated). And I let the cover sit for awhile before I put any gear oil back in it.
