I'm waiting for new brake lines for my 66 coupe so I decided to clean up and paint the rearend and other various stuff,

The question is, would it be safe for me to remove my driveline and sand off the rust and grit and paint it or would it cause a balance problem with the driveline?

I recently bought a driveshaft on ebay that was from "Up North" (never do that again) and it had lots of rust scale. I removed all the scale and left the pitting. I had a driveshaft vibe before with the old driveshaft and still have some, but not near as bad as it was. I'd advise you to remove the rust and paint it if you want. That's what I did.

That's what I'm thinking of doing, rightnow it looks mostly just like surface rust nothing to bad or looks like it is pitting. Just wasn't sure if it hurt anything to paint it or not. I'll probably take it to a driveline shop and get it rebalanced and put in new u-joints while it's out.
