what stall speed for me?

66 mustang, 347, afr heads, long tubes, TCI super street fighter c4, holly 600 cfm, performer rpm intake, etc etc. im sure the most important thing is the cam so here is the spec's on it. gross valve lift intake .536 exhaust .544
duration @ .050 224 230

i dont have gearing but i will gear it with 373 or 410's when the money comes in.
the car is going to be a weekend worrier and see some track. im looking at 2 different converters. one is a stall speed of 2200-2800 the other is 2800-3200, does this seem like something my car is going to like?

It sounds like you have an 8.8 inch rear. I have a similar combo in my car. I have a 9 inch rear with 3.70 in the back and a 2800-3000 stall and my car just loves it. I think a similar combo to mine would be more "streetable" than 4.10s and still get you down the track plenty fast.

Who made the cam in your engine? Usually, like with 'comp' cams, there is a 'prefered' list of specs that come with the cam itself.
I.E., cam "A" requires 3.50 or taller rear gears, and a 3000+ stall TQ.
Probably your cam maker can best answer your question. Obviously, since you spent the coin for the stroker, you want the best performance from the total package....

I'd look in the 3-3500 range depending on how much of a drag car it is. 3 would be more street obviously. But with a bigger motor, may go a little higher than 3. The streetfighter would be a good pick for that. My 302,185's,4.11's and 3500 went 7.6's all day long. Yours ought to move pretty well.

i have a similar cam (duration wise) and i'm running a stock convertor and 3.25 gears, it's about as big a cam as you can get away with a stock convertor. for streetability i'd go with the 2200-2400 stall and the 3.73 rear if it was mine. remember the higher the stall speed the more heat is generated and heat is what kills automatic trannies. if you're less worried about driving and more interested in the best 1/4 mile times then go with the higher stall.

With the future gearing and cam you'll be happier with the lower stall converter. The converter in my 331 is in the 1500-2500 range and with a Z303 cam (.587 lift, 228* duration) it's just fine with it with 3.50 gearing. Just a light touch to the gas pedal is all that's needed to light em up.

im looking on Ebay for a converter and i see the Bosshog ones. they have one that is 2200-2800 and then another one 2800-3200. i love the price. it would be nice to have a TCI brand but not for 400+ bux. so you really think i will like the 2200-2800 stall huh? im new to this AUTO/C4 thing so i dont know what to expect. i want good drivability but i also want to be in the 11sec 1/4 mile times. thats a tuff time to get up here in the high desert. lol

I used to use a 3300 behind my 289.I probably coulda went a little higher, but with a 3300 it had no drivability issues as people say and you couldnt even tell it was that high of a stall. On the bottle it stalled a little higher

I say go for a stall of 3000-3500.

Ditto, I have a 10.5" 3500 in mine and its street drivability is just fine. Mine was custom done though, not a Jegs order converter which IMO helps cause the converter guys can do things to help you out with your particular build.

IMO I would contact someone like ultimateconverter and see what they recommend. In a month or so Ill probably be selling my converter since I need a much much looser converter for my build (around 5500-6000rpm) I could probably make ya a great deal on it.

here is a look at my cam card. This may help you guys further answer me. i didnt have this thing scanned before but here it is now. View attachment 318480

someone was saying comp cams puts a recommendation for a stall speed on the card but they don't. not on mine as you can see.

You've got a custom ground cam there. It's not listed in Comp's off the shelf grinds. According to the duration figures, and matched in their converter list you'd want a 2200-2400 stall.

where are you located?

two months ago, i bought a 24-spline 3000-3500 10" from BTE Racing in Memphis, but my 289 is having valve issues and im going to drop in a stock 5.0 long block. I may want to go back back to my stock converter, since ive been told the 3500 is a lot for a stock 5.0

i highly recommend BTE Racing, who will ship a custom build converter to your door for $340. check out bteracing.com, and they should still have their 10" special going on. they have very good customer service over the phone
