transmission question

is a tranny out of a 91 GT going to work in a 92 2.3 LX?

Short answer-

5 speed- Not without a special pilot bearing/bushing, and you won't like the gear ratios (especially the overdrive) behind a 2.3L

Auto- No way.

Yes a V8 tranny wll work for a 4 banger. I just took out a 92 GT T5 out of my 4banger and put one in it thats for a 4banger. Yes you might not like the gear ratio diffrence with using a V8 one.All i did was remove the V8 one and install the 4 banger one, i didnt find out it was a V8 trans till i pulled it and the guy i sold it to ran the numbers and said it was from 92 GT. I didnt change nothing as far as piliot bearings when i swaped them, in out done! peace

yeah i shoulved specified which tranny it was... guess i ****ed up... i bought a 91gt auto tranny thinking it wouldve worked in the 4cyl... see what happens when u drive sn95 LOL

Did you check the input shaft sizes before installing the 4cyl transmission. I have read in multiple places that the shafts are different sizes. And yes the small input shaft would go easily into the big bearing hole. But it may cause problems. Just a thought.

They ARE different sizes, and the input shaft on the V8 T5 is longer.

I would be surprised if the V8 T5 pushed the pilot bearing back in the hole when it was installed...but who knows.
