what can i remove to get the most weight out of the car for going to the track?

i plan on going this tuesday, and i really need a good pass with the car, i've been so frustrated on the car and if i can get a half decent pass i think it may perk me up enough to enjoy the car.

i'm going to take out the passenger seat and back seat, spare tire, wood and carpet in trunk. took off front sway bar today and changed the fuel filter. only gunna run about a quarter tank of gas to go there, so i should have about a eighth tank when i get there, then i'll refill on the way home.
 
remove all speakers and radio. all carpet, head liner, swap the pass manual seat track for the drivers powered one, center console glove box, rear panels, everything in trunk, floor mats, sunvisors, dogbone.

And I think thats might be it. :nice:
 
only thing i ever remove was my sub box, spare, and junk from the car. I would run with a 1/4 tank never really wanted to run with less to not risk fuel starvation. I think removing anything else, unless its going to stay removed isn't really what your car run.
 
practice goes farther than weight lose in some cases. don't get pissed if you don't get a good pass, just get better at driving the car.

yeah. but my dad only wants me to make one pass. so i want to make it good enough to where i'm satisfied with how the car performs. its got high mileage, so i dont know how many passes the car could take.

the night i'm going they allow one free pass down the track. so i figure if i am going to be dissapointed with the time i get, why pay to be dissapointed.

its mainly the fact i have alot of money into the car, more then what i would of spent if i just bought one with less mileage in a little bit better condition. and it runs pretty bad.

it feels like a dog. did a quick blast with my friends wrx. they only run i think 14.1 is the advertised time. but he just flew past me like i was just cruising. i got the jump and was right in the powerband for second gear when he started. with what i have into the car. i'd like a high 13, low 14 second pass. but i don't think that'll happen.

just too many problems with the car, have a good income but its not coming fast enough. with me going to school in the near future, i need something that isn't going to be down every weekend.
 
Not trying to offend, but wouldnt it be wiser to save all the money from go fast parts and put it toward a newer car? Trust me Ive been in your position. My 88 5.0 I had before this car was in the same boat. I bought it with the highest aspirations but after a year or two the body wasnt going to hold up. My car was far from a dog though. Mechanically it was sound, but the body sucked balls. THe previous owner did a Maaco special over several bad rust spots and when it came through... :nonono: I wouldve liked to have put work and money into the car but I came to the realization that it just wasnt worth it. I saved my money, kept daily driving it and then sold it after I dumped a grand on the down payment for my 95. Now Im making this the car Ive wanted for the last ten years. In the end I guess it depends on what you want out of the car. Ive never really bought a Mustang with the sole aspiration of fast track times. I dont race anyone anymore and I dont go to the track, seen too many of my friends destroy otherwise good cars at the tracks all for nothing. At least in my opinion. Just out of curiosity, why is your car the proverbial dog you speak of? Hows the body? Is it mechanical issues? When I set out to buy my new car, the body was my main priority other than it having a 5.0 . For me, with no garage, cars needing body work is something I steer clear of, especially since Im a novice at best in body work. Mechanical problems I can tackle no problem but I am in a unique situation in that regard. Is your car just in need of work or is it a dead horse?
 
your concerned what kind of times your gonna run in a car that u say "runs pretty bad", in your own words. why dont u worry about getting the car to run properly first before u start trying to knock off 13 second passes at the track.

well i dont expect 13 second passes, i'd like to reach high 13s if i could but i'd settle for a mid to low 14 second pass.

i am not expecting some godly number, just don't want to do the pass and get my time slip and see a 15.8 or something.

i plan on rebuilding the motor this winter if i keep the car. its a matter of getting the money. i have a steady full time job working 40+ hours a week making decent pay. just need to let the money add up enough to have enough for the motor.

my paint is pretty shot, the old owner wrecked it sometime, it wasn't on the car fax, but the left side is all repainted and the hood is all screwed up, the gaps are all, and the left front is all chipped up and banged up, the headerpanels cracked so the headlights don't aim where they should and i can barely see at night. where its repainted you can tell because they stopped at the hood and right before the trunk lid. its shiny lazer red with faded pinkish red on the passenger side.

i also burn 5 quarts of oil in about 500 miles maybe less now. i've replaced the valve seals just liek 3 months ago.

i think its number 8 cylinder the plug gets fouled after a quick drive. i have a defouler on there, but it didn't help at all.

loud fuel pump, loud powersteering pump, transmission whines, rear whines. when i have a chick in the car i feel so embarassed because they ask what the noises are or why my car is smoking everywhere i go. it used to be only when i first start it up and then it went away, but now its doing it the whole way to work.

i'm running either 20w50 or straight 30 in the car, depending on what is in the store that weekend when i need to refill. and it still burns horribly.


the cars been my pride and joy, i've had high hopes for it. but the fact i am embarassed to be sitting in traffic smoking up the light or giving a girl a ride or just hanging out with friends and just all these problems come into play.

i've been considering cutting my tail pipes off so it looks like i'm just smoking the tires hahah. no one needs to know tires don't smoke blue.

and btw i just wanted to make sure i didn't forget this, if it was a simple fix then i would of already done it. but because i have to rebuild the bottom end, this being my only car, its not an easy task to do especially when its my dad thats teaching me all of this and helping me out. we've had 2 other cars here waiting to be rebuilt for the past 2 years or so. with my brother just blowing up his porsche, i'm pretty much last in line because "it still runs".

i wanted to buy another block out of a junkyard and just build that up, then switch everything over that i was going to reuse and drive. my dad doesn't think its a good idea, why, i'm not sure.

Actually its a damn good idea. Minimizes downtime and allows you to still drive while having time to get it done right as opposed to rushing because you have work on Monday.

As for your car, I feel your pain. That sounds a lot like my last Stang. I think you have to sit down and figure out personally if the car is worth saving. If deep down you know it isnt then stop putting money into it, save for maybe maintaining the safety and regular maintenance. Save for a new car or save for a beater and park the stang to work on it.

yeah thats what i figure, i mean it'll be a little bit extra money, but a little bit extra money and that much faster i can get the car done and done up right. instead of rushing to put something together because i need a car for something. do it up how i want it done, not just to get it done.

yeah, thats where i'm borderline, i've owned 3 cars already and none of them were any good, first one i still haven't driven because my dad told me it would be a good deal and we can rebuild it. 4-5 years later still sitting. next car i bought a few months after i started driving, because i needed something to get around to and from school and such. probably my best car yet, and definitely my cheapest. sold it because i wanted something more powerful, with a nice rumble and feel to it. bought my mustang, has been problems and been throwing money into it since day one. my dad has a thing with us buying cars cheap and fixing them up, but so far i'm still trying to get this car to run half as good as it did stock.

this cars taught me alot, but i am going to a tech school to be taught how to work on cars, not when i'm SOL on the side of the road because my cars got high mileage and needs parts thrown at it all the time. I don't have the money to learn on this car. i make enough to work on it, but its not like i have that money at all times.

when the transmission blew last year in it i wasn't expecting it to happen, i didn't have an extra 2 grand in my pocket to fix it. my car was down for a few months. still paying insurance on it.
 
When my 95 was bone stock except for some flowmaster mufflers it was a dog. I then changed the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires and the car picked up quite a bit. After that I got a Summit O/R H pipe and it picked up again some decent power I thought. Then I ordered a 2.5" Flowmaster catback and that made a pretty big difference. After that I ordered a set of BBK UD pulleys and a C&L 76mm CAI. Installed them and shifting hard into 2nd the car had no traction at all. There is something wrong with your car. A 95 with the right bolt on parts should not be so slow that it depresses you.


Oh and I wouldn't rip out the back seats, passenger seats, trunk liner, radio, speakers....

Its not going to mak a big enough difference for you to go "Wow I really like this car now!"

If the body is fine then do a compression check on the motor. If it comes out fine throw some exhaust on it. That was the mod that woke my car up the biggest. When was the last time you tuned the car up?

i've got a new distributor cap rotor plugs, plug wires, got underdrive pullies from mac, 3.73s, weld in flows, new transmission with different gear ratios better suited for drag, new radiator, new thermostat, new valve seals. i was going to throw long tube headers and a offroad x pipe on it this weekend, but my parents needed to borrow my paycheck.

i checked compression on the one cylinder that keeps fouling the plug and it was reading 135 or so i think.


i wish one thing was nice on the car though, paint is shot, drivetrain is shot.

working every hour i can get so i can one day have a nice car. about to pick up a second job because its to the point that my current job doesn't want to pay me anymore overtime.
