Does a smaller bladed TB give a better throttle response? Like 75 mm inst of 80mm?

The race spec TB's have a 100mm opening so it should fit your silicone connector real nice.

I guess your not worried about those emissions anymore...lol:D Glad to see that squeal is gone, I know how much you loved it:rolleyes: Must of had a vac leak, maybe the gasket??

What's emissions? lol. Thanks Rick. Yes, I am thinking it was a gasket or something now. I do know that the accufab unit itself does not leak but the egr spacer did somewhere. I would like to keep the race unit but I would have to sell mine as it is not defective. Since the car is running great now, I am afraid to touch anything. I think I will send the race unit back and just keep the one I have with the elbow shim in there.

p.s. As I mentioned on the other thread, I am amazed at the difference in the drive-train now that you and your dad set me up with the new gears. The car is REAL tight. I think about that every time I get in it now.

[edit] the throttle response is MUCH better now with the leak gone..

Sir, clearly you did not read the thread above. According to the chart, you only need a 70mm race throttle body. An 80mm race throttle body, with a 100!!!!!!!mm opening will supply entirely too much air and you won't be able to drive the car. I am shocked that Accufab even let you buy the 80mm throttle body!

Sarcasm aside, I'm glad that you found the part you were looking for and that you are enjoying the car again. I had the squeal when I originally installed an FMS 65mm throttle body on my stock intake. When I switched to the TFS intake, with the same throttle body, the squeal was gone. I chalked it up to incorrect install on my part. I've been following and offering my .02 on your build since you started it, and its cool to see yourself and others here nailing down all the small stuff and representing the SN95 crowd with some great rides!

I can't wait to get back into the game. I finally saved up the loot for an engagement ring, so I have a pretty good idea where that extra 500 bucks a month will be going. Hopefully I'll be hearing from you when I start my own build in a year or so.

An Ls1 has a 71.5mm (75mm opening) TB from the factory, they include a throttle cam. Take the '98-'99 pulley system for opening the throttle, which has very close to the same cable pull to the angle of the blade. Now, what did GM do for the later years following 1999? They created a nautilus shell style throttle cam, where the part throttle portion of the cam requires more pull on the cable, with less degree angle actually being applied to the throttle body. As the blade gets closer to WOT, the radius of the cam shrinks and allows the blade to open up completely to WOT. So why would GM, do this?

Easy answer; it is to help with part throttle touchiness.

The minimum area I measured in my ls1 intake TB track was 73.14".

My car was easier to drive over a stock TB as well. The FRPP throttle body I had was much smoother. It had nothing to do with airflow, just the design and age.

Wasnt the TB on the LS1 drive by wire. I know it is on the corvette so there is no cable, lol.

It is always best to shoot for the larger side of things (80 > 70) with a TB. It is not a carb! As Rick agreed, having a large intake tube, small TB in comparison, and large intake opening/TB runner area, that is not a good thing for max HP.

No one said you will not be able to drive the car or that it will give you to much air.

You take these things way to personal and to heart. Do not lose your debating style, you are good at it and bring up good points. Keep it up.
