well, i'm sure it's directed at me...

i pretty much agree with you, and it does not inflame me.... just is kinda a bad decision on meyer's part. the only legit part of it is that wilson is paying his own way, staying out of trouble, and making the grades on his own. the school is giving him nothing at the moment, and he is earning his way back onto the team. and, the end of the article states that urban let him back "not in good standing" and that meyer is "still evaluating." so in my book, he's still careful about his decisions. it's not like he gave the kid a scholarship or anything.....

i cant judge it much more than that....

There is more to the article...I just psted the 1st page. It goes on to describe two other instances as sort of a point counter-point.

LSU has had it's share of problems but generally Les Miles has handled it until the Ryan Perrilloux episode. He did finally send him packing but only after numerous suspensions and transgressions...the latest testing dirty on a drug screen. I'm all for second chances but like the article stated, cutting him loose and letting him start somewhere else with a pat on the back. No way I'd have let him back on the team.

well, the first 2, were stupid things, IMO. peeing in public? lame.... i mean, stupid, but drunk people do it! caught with pot? yeah, illegal, but not the end all be all....

shooting a gun was a huge mistake, and he was kicked off the team for it.... he went a year with no issues, no problems, no help, and is doing ok.... yet is still not "in good standings." i just dont know what i would say to it, i mean, if one more slip up happens, sure, he's gone for good, but the kid IS trying to straighten out....

i mean, look at marcus thomas. he was a HUGE key player on our team in 06, but meyer still kicked him off the team for breaking the rules.... guess we'll just have to wait and see

If you look at OSU last season that was supposed to be their year. Granted they backed into the game as well as LSU but no way you can't say it wasn't expected. From day 1 they were supposed to be the team to beat along with LSU and USC.

Actually, you are completely wrong on last year being OSU's year. Last year was a year where we were breaking in a new quaterback and receivers and had lost some talent on D as well. Going into the season, we were ranked 11th as opposed to USC and LSU at 1 and 2. We were supposed to lose at Penn State, Purdue was supposed to be a challenge and Michigan was supposed to be good and we had to play them at the big house. Also, when the Washington game was scheduled 8-9 years prior to the season, they were one of the Pac 10 powerhouses. At that time, USC wasn't what they've become under Pete Carroll and Rick Neuheisel (sp?) was a golden boy who just got hired away from Colorado for big $$$.

This year, I feel the ranking is deserved. We return 19-20 starters (depending on which article you read) including our quaterback, running back (with a very high quality #2 back in Saine), and our receiving core. Defensively, we are anchored by Laurinaitis and have a couple other potential first round draft picks in the defensive backfield as well. Also, the number 1 recruit in all of college football is ours and he is a workaholic who is doing everything the coaches ask of him and then some to get ready for the season. He will not be our starting quaterback, but you will see him used like Florida did with Tebow in his Freshman year.

You are right...I forgot about preseason polls but we all know they mean squat. Once OSU got rolling they looked like the team to beat...

Oh...and the LSU's Carnell Stewart punked Laurinaitis. :D
18 tackles but most were "pile-on's" after the play was over. He was out of position and allowed two passes by him to let LSU tie it at 10. After that it was like OSU watching Usain Bolt in the 100M. Ol WWF James was never a factor in that defense that allowed 38 points to the SEC's third rated offense.

So, you are OSU's D Coordinator and know for a fact that James was out of position/blowing his coverage assignment? As to it being a track meet, I don't know about that. To me, our D coordinator started pissing down his leg and quit calling aggressive plays, letting LSU pick them apart. Same thing happened against Illinois 2 weeks before the end of the regular season. IMHO, it goes back to us being in a rebuilding season and not having the weapons on defense to go man up, we needed to rely on good defensive play calling and couldn't get conservative, but we did.

It's 6 one way and half a dozen the other. You can point fingers but overall they were supposed to have a seasons worth of experience...coaching and players. No way can you lay the blame strictly on coaching. A lot of people say LSU wins in spite of it's coaching. Some ballsy play calling going the other way and we would be looking at some other two loss team in the game against OSU. For all of his peculiarities you have to admire Les Miles for his loyalty.

Miles was backed into a corner right before the BCS game and to avoid losing integrity he decided to stick with LSU. NO DOUBT in my mind had ESPN not been trying so hard to scoop a story and broke it at the most inopportune time Miles would be at Michigan now.

It's cool to hear an individual take on the teams though. I know we can search the internet for all the info we want but to come here and see a brief synopsis on the individual teams or individual opinions is fun.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to say that OSU was the more experienced, veteran team??? They were young coming into the season and had 1 less game than LSU including the lack of getting to play in a conference title game*. Yes, in general, I will say we have a better coaching staff than LSU and we were hoping Les would take the U of M job, but I do feel OSU's D coordinator got too conservative.

* About conference title games. Until the Big Ten does it, or at least adjusts the regular season so that it ends after the Thanksgiving weekend, conferences that do have them will be at an advantage in bowl games. You will not hear me ever say it's an unfair advantage, but it is an advantage that the Big 10 is foolish to ignore and/or avoid.

Little late getting in on this (oops) but....Let's go MOUNTAINEERS!:nice:

However I kinda feel like the team is a big question mark this year...brand new, basically unproven head coach.

Rest of the team hasn't changed much...I think? Was gonna look at the roster on ESPN but they still have last year's roster up for some reason  I know Schmitt and Slaton are gone which makes me sad.

Kinda disappointed that it looks like I gotta wait until October to see what the team can really do, since it looks like they play a bunch of crappy teams until Auburn (unless Rutgers turns out to be good this year too).

No...I'm not saying they were vets...but they had played all season together...jelled if you will. You don't have the record they did and get to the NC without having some good team players.

I mean how can you really have a veteran team in college anymore with quite a few people leaving in junior seasons and virtually no one having any more than 2 solid season of playing time. When you are a freshman you don't pay unless you are really good. If you play your sophomore season then you may step it up experience-wise but you never have anyone with very much experience when you really think about it...not compared to the pros. So your experienced teams are the ones who play pretty much the same guys the entire season and the ones who have the better athletes have the success. Experienced or not.

Maybe Les Miles knows how to say Arkansas this year after we nearly kept them out of the title game. :D

Arkansas won't be any good this year, but won't finish last in the SEC. New coach, new players, etc.. Gotta reload and get our system in place.

I'm hoping Georgia will win the SEC since AR won't. Can't stand Florida (especially Tebow's gay ass) or LSU. (No offense to anyone, it's just a conference thing).

I also like Ohio State.. ftw! If they can get past USC, they'll be in a BCS game.. not sure about the National Championship because USC and Georgia will be hard to overtake for that spot.

Ahh, I get what you are saying now. It kept sounding like you thought they were supposed to dominate like the '06 team. As to how we got number to 1, the Big Ten was down. With how some of the teams turned out last year, it was not hard to get there. I am not one of those Big Ten homers that think we are the greatest thing since sliced bread. There's no doubt the SEC is the toughest conference out there. I do think the SEC does get a little too much credit at times. Sometimes it comes off like the rest of college football is 1-AA compared to the SEC and that get's old, just like the rest of college football has gotten tired the last couple years of OSU running roughshod over the Big Ten and then looking less than NC caliber in the big game. It's all cyclical though. In the '90s, the Big Ten was fairly strong with Michigan and Penn State winning National titles and the Big Ten having a winning % in bowl games. Heck, it was only 4 or 5 years ago that the Big Ten was 5-2 in Bowls and 3-1 against the SEC in bowl games.

4 hours and counting 'til kick-off for the Buckeyes. I'll be sitting in the stands, watching them beat up on my alma mater (yes, I am a Penguin from Youngstown State University). My ideal outcome is that YSU plays respectably, yet not so well that OSU looks subpar. Worst nightmare would be for them to pull off an App State upset.

Game 1 toady for my soon to be BCS busting BYU Cougars! They are gonna have to go undefeated to even have a shot at it, whilst some BCS school will likely play in some of the high end bowl games with 2 losses :nono:
