Odd Turn Signal Issue

Did a search before I posted, but couldn't seem to find a similar set of symptoms..

What Doesn't Work:
Driver's side Turn Signal when activated by turn signal switch (on solid)

What Does Work:
Emergency Lights (both)
Passenger Turn Signal (flashed fine with switch).
Parking Lights (both)

Problem is the same irrespective if the headlights are on or not. I've tried new bulbs and no change.

Have cleaned all the connections and made sure they're tight. Could it be the signal unit itself? They're original Ford, but wiring and everything is in good shape.

Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks!

Check brake light bulb to see if they are being activated when stepping on brake and using turn signals. I seem to remember having that problem when one of the rear lights went out.

No luck. Taillights work fine. Swapped in a different (new) bulb and no improvement.

A lot of the brake/turn signal problems are in the turn signal switch behind the steering wheel. The contacts get old and worn out. I have been lucky and was able to clean mine to fix my brake/turn signal light. You might look into that. The steering wheel has to come off to get to it though.

You still didn't say if the brake lights work or not.

But since the emergency flashers work, it's probably the the turn signal switch or connector/wiring in/under the column.

Brake Lights do work.

I'll look into the column... Dash / steering wheel are all off the car. Switch is relatively (well, miles wise). Hope it's not that...

Forgot to add: Indicator on the dash doesn't come one for the driver's turn signal...

A slow or non blinking signal is due to both the flasher being a light duty unit and/or one of the bulbs in the circuit not working. Install a heavy duty flasher and get a freind to verify all the bulbs are functioning when the signal's on. Also check the grounding of said bulbs

I had a similar problem and it was in the column. The original switch was replaced by an inferior replacement. I bought a new one after checking around and that fixed my problem. I think I got it from NPD.

FIXED!!

Put in a heavy duty flasher module off the generic rack at the parts store. Works like a champ.

Glad to see you figured it out. Flashers have come in two duty ranges for years. I've always used the HD ones. The light duty flashers have always been crap to me. They either flash too fast or not at all if one(or more) bulb doesn't work. The HD flashers also work better than the light dutys when pulling a trailer too.
