I fired up the stang today for the first time in like 3 years. I missed the sound of my baby. The borough is bitching cause my car and trucks are parked in the yard un tagged and not inspected. My dad talked to the local tow company (he used to work for the guy years ago) and he said he would tow my old truck and my stang to his farm. I'm not big on the idea of my car sitting somewhere I can't see it. I fired it up to make sure I could move it.

If you remember it had a knock.

I listened with a mechanics stethoscope and it kinda sounds like it could be coming from the passenger side head. I am thinking possible valve tap. How loud would that be though?

I am gonna go out and listen some more tomorrow and see if i hear anything else. I'm pondering the idea of I narrow it down to a valve tap throwing some used heads on it and seeing what happens. Maybe I can fix it and run it till the 514 is ready to go in. Not sure if i wanna up grade heads if i do that or just get some stockers.

On an odd note. When I fired it up it ran pretty smooth. I got out and looked and I don't have my MAF hooked up. Its not even in the car. I think is in my storage shed. I thought if you didn't have a MAF it would run like ****?

Negative. My turbo setup ran great when we fired it up no maf.

jinx...I have to ask you....and not trying to piss you off ....:rlaugh:

What the hell are you doing......:D

The stang went down....as you say three years ago.....

You have purchased a motorcycle...:nice:

You purchasded the Dodge 4 x 4 :nice:

You purchased the 99 sixer as a dd :nice:

Somewhere in there could have been an explorer or crate motor, that your heads and bolt ons could transfer so no big HP loss...

It is not the big block you are talking about but surely the mystery machine would be more fun to drive than the 99
Gotta be making money driving the ambulette....:)

Yeah the bike was a stupid purchase. I should have saved that money.

I was all about just spending everything on the BB and not wasting it on this or another motor. I truely hate the idea of my car being away from me though. With the thought of my baby being were I can't see it the BB only thoughts have lessoned just so I can keep it home and drive it.

The 99 is actually kinda fun to drive. I have mentioned on here before that I think its pretty fast. I drove the Ram for a long time though so that could mess with my head lol.

I gotta watch what I do though cause I still need to finish the ram's engine rebuild. The block is at the machine shop now. Its been there for about 2 weeks now. Stoped in there the other day and he hasn't touched it yet. I still need to buy a bunch of stuff for it. Including rr's and the sct. Them 2 things I believe are the most expensive things left. Then gaskets and bearings and crap like that.

I'm making almost 11 bucks an hour right now. Once I get my emt it will go up. Beings I'm in emt class though I only work 3 nights a week at 8 hours. I get on call nights but I only get paid for 3 hours unless I get a run that's longer then that. We only get paid twice a month too. Kinda weird but its a job so I'm not bitching

That's not bad money for not being a EMT yet? I put myself through college working for a Ambulance/Ambulette/ Funeral Home business for 6 years......then the Ambulance company was sold to a corporation out of Cincinnati so the family could build a bigger/better Funeral home. I remember making $5 per hour back when I started transporting ambulatory patients.....worked my way up to office manager over the years but when I left I was @ $8 per hour...made $34K that year...lol lots of OT....wow, brings back memories...that was the wild early 20 years for me.......lot of time spent getting IV's and sucking on O2 after a long drunken night after classes...:rlaugh:

:rlaugh:Good luck on the truck.....just giving you a little to think about brother......get the MM back on the road....as soon as you can......:D

Damn man how old are you? :D

The funeral/Ambulance service was back in the begining days of EMS my book says late 1940's.

Talked to my bro in law. He thinks I should pull the pass side head and look at the valves and just replace the valves if that seems to be the problem. I was thinking some gt40's. He has a point though make sure thats the problem first and it would be cheaper.

I'm not ancient.....I will turn 40 in June.....:rlaugh: It was a family business so it probably did start around that time, I was there from 91 to 97. I questioned the double business and was told..."We use the Ambulance co to make a good impression so that when people pass on they use us."......I used to see the bills for both companies and talk about "mark up"....even tape....bandages..etc were crazy....
That's a good idea......got a stethoscope? How pissed are you going to be if it is just valves and it sat for so long...:rlaugh: I hope that's all it is and you can pic up a decent set cheap or rework those....keep us up on it....

I would have taken it apart about 2 1/2 years ago. :p It shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks to get it running again, at least temporarily. Hell I sold my complete stock engine for like $150 a couple years ago. You could have the motor swapped in a weekend.

I say you get the truck finished first though so you can send my tools back to me. :D

ill say what ive been saying from the beginning....

pick up a explorer motor from a junkyard or something

-600

sell off all the unused parts and between that and your stock stuff you can make a decent chunk back

then drive the piss out of it untill u get the BB done

E......

A few points....:rlaugh:

1. Joe shares my point........take his heads...lol

2. Screw Mike.....He just bought a house and can afford to mod his car this winter.....:rlaugh: and he lives in Ohio.....:rlaugh: j/k Mike

3. The motorcycle was not a "stupid" choice....we all spend money unwisely at times....been there myself..can't take it with you and what is the point of working and not enjoying some toys......:nice: This coming from a person who can't keep a car longer than a couple of months..lol

4. If what Adam says is true, if they are "quiet" they can get it.....they are allowed to do that....they just are not "aloud" too....:nice: Sorry Adam, I am sleep deprived and amusing myself at the moment.......I am the worst at speed typing and have more than my share of typo's...figured your a good enough of a guy to handle the joke....:nice:

5. As far as me being old.......and ancient....JT and Grady have me beat......they must have found the fountain of youth........and the book of knowleadge......I'm just a middle aged dumb azz that thinks he is funny....

the rule is you better have it up by summer..we will allow the Dodge to go first due to winter but by June the MM better be up and running...or :ban:
