Completely replaced all but the steering pump and the gear box; new valve, allthe steering arms, bushings, cyl....everything. Filled with ATF, started the car and it all seemed fine for a moment. Then you turn the steering wheel and it, by itself starts rocking back and forth very, very rapidly..if Id had my hands inside the wheel it would have taken them off!!!

Is it an adjustment???

You have the lines from valve to cylinder crossed/switched.

Someone else can probably give a better explanation, but as I recall: Once you turn the wheel off center, the non-hydraulic force on the centerlink starts it headed in one direction but the hydraulic assist is actually trying to push it in the opposite direction. Then the various mechanisms that are supposed to recenter everything cause the cycle with the wheel whipping back and forth. Freaked the heck out of me when I did it years ago. And, yeah, you could break a bone or two.
