I'm finally putting an antenna back on the car, and I'm having problems with the repro part.

The part of the antenna shaft below the top of the fender appears to be too long and hits what I'm guessing is part of the cowl -- it is directly beneath the hole. I looked at the NOS options on ebay and can see the difference in length. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm thinking about trying to trim the shaft, but I can easily imagine that going wrong in a hurry.

As always, your help is much appreciated.

Strange, the repro I am familiar with is so identical to the original it has the same number of threads on the bottom. If yours is hitting the cowl, I'm betting the hole is in the wrong place.

That article is quite informative

Thanks for the very informative link. It's likely that my antenna hole is further inboard than yours, though I can't be sure without waking the neighbors.

I'm not sure what you mean by "same number of threads on the bottom," as the only threads on mine appear to be up top. Can you elaborate further?

I'd post pics to show the perceived differences, but I haven't figured out how to pull them off ebay. I'll work on that tomorrow.

I was hoping that maybe the bottommost part screwed off in some fashion I couldn't figure out.

I'll likely bob the interfering portion with a pipe cutter and see what happens. Likely it will take out the connection between the cable and the upper antenna, but it's what I have.
