I just purchased a 5.0 roller motor out of an 86 Grand Marquis. I am putting this motor into a 95 Mustang GT. I need some information on the motor. What 302 options were there for the grand Marquis in 86. Was the roller version an HO?
I am putting this into a 95 mustang with the computer for an HO motor. If the 86 Grand Marquis roller motor is an HO then I won't have to change the cam, but if it's just a roller 302 I will need to change the cam to fit the Mustang HO firing pattern.

Could you please give me information on this so I know what the next step will be in my motor swap.
Thanks

non ho... pretty sure, not even sure if it has the e7 heads think they didnt get going till 87 my memory could be a mess though... Think the 86 had e6's and im not sure if the pistons have valve reliefs

Definitely not HO, pretty sure no piston reliefs. Upper intake manifold is not HO either.

I had an 88 Cougar with a 5.0. It was a roller cam, non-HO engine. Lower compression (around 8.0 I think), different firing order, cast iron manifolds instead of headers, etc... The only difference on the upper intake was the name plate on top. Two torx drive screws and that's done. The biggest problem was the weak cam and low compression, IMO.

I don't know this for 100% sure but I believe there was a difference between HO and non HO upper intakes. Not visually but internally. The HO uppers supposedly flow slightly better and have "HO" cast on the manifold under the plaque. The lower intake were all the same though. Does anyone else know if this is true? I have a couple of stock uppers in my garage, one has the HO mark on it and one doesn't.
