Fuel Filter reminder

I am Very good about changing oil, plugs, all the reccommended parts before the mileage in the book etc.
But one thing i had forgotten about was the fuel filter. Factory calls for every 15k, but i thought with the sea foam and other similar products i was using that it would be ok. Went 22k on it and was amazed on how clogged it was. Gas was barely dripping when i hit it to the ground and you could barely feel the air when blowing through it.
After i got the new one in it was almost like a new set of plugs were put in.


Know a lot of you are very great with this, just wanted to remind those who cars aren't running quite like they were. Aside from running better also get better gas mileage i would think. Not much, but i highly recommend it guys. Just one of those parts that at least i forget about sometimes.

Good reminder. I changed mine a few months ago (for the first time in the 4 years I've owned my car) and mine was the same way.

Also a reminder, make sure the pressure is off the fuel system before you take it off....made that mistake too....

Also, not so much as mileage, but age too. My 2004 Cobra has 8,900 miles, but it's 6 years old. It sits a lot. I should think about changing mine.

Also...use a Motorcraft. Do NOT buy FRAM or off brands to save a whopping 2-3 dollars. People have posted of lost fuel pressure with FRAM.

I take the fuel cap off to start, but you should also find the shrader valve on the fuel rail and press the valve down. CAUTION: Fuel will spray with force for a second. Watch your eyes, children, and do it on a cold engine.

D BOI Hard to believe you made it that long without some types of clogs or fuel pump problems. Was hoping this thread would help at least 1 person. Glad it did. And very glad about the link.

Also what SVT32 was mentioning, yes be Very careful. When i was 16 i did it on my 5.0 and you have not felt pain until you get gas in your eyes and ears. Where some goggles if you can the first time you do it. Don't mean to make it sound hard by any means. Just be careful. Was a little younger, but whew that hurt

I'm a couple of days late, but here goes. Yea, you can push the schrader valve and that works fine. But what I do is unplug the plug right under the rear bumper/behind the fuel tank. It's very easy to get to, and all you have to do is push in a tab and the two ends of the plug pull apart from each other. Then, turn the car over for a bout 10 seconds, or until it stops hitting any more from the fuel.

I prefer the second method because it doesn't require getting fuel spray everywhere, and if you have a fuel pressure gauge in place of the schrader valve, you can't exactly just take it off. The second method is very easy to do and takes about 30 seconds.

picked one up at O'reilly's since we dont have advance auto.

Also, if the car sits for 24 hrs or so, isnt the fuel pressure released by itself anyways?
