trying to plug holes where smog line goes to heads...bolts thread?

i got the 9/16" NC bolt like the write-up said...just seems like they thread in really hard? is this the correct one for a 93 5.0? just dont want to strip anything...thanks

I bought mine from the Ford dealer, thinky they were like less than $5 a piece, and I think they are pipe thread on the outside of the sleeve and standard thread on the inside. Just use loctite when installing them.

9/16" x1" with 3 washers per bolt...grade 8 bolts i used...well i got them in there...put some loctite on them and cranked them down as hard as i could (given the tiny amount of leverage i could get) put the blue loctite on them...dont know how much stayed on the thread since half of it got on my hands trying to spin the bolt in the hole lol. you dont have to replace the bolts that held the pipe in though right?

well i used the 9/16" NC and they fit fine...took a little to get them started but then they threaded in no problem.

What was the purpose for plugging the smog pump holes? Just for eiminating the smog pump? Does it do any good to the engine ?

It's part of eliminating the smog set up. So if you get rid of your smog pump, you might as well get rid of the rest of the ugly equipment that takes up room and weight. It will not hurt the motor.

found a nice dime sized hole in one of the big rubber hoses on my system...probably could've caused a vaccuum issue no?

Smog hoses aren't part of the vac setup. You'd just vent outside air.

The ports in the back of the heads are so that the smog pump can pump O2 to the exhaust ports to flow out into the headers and down to the pre-cats to help convert gases. Once the car warms up, the valve switches flow to pump the air down to the main cats and shuts off flow to the thermactor ports.

If the cats are gone, you can delete all that stuff and plug the holes. If you install GT40p's which do not have the ports, but still run cats, you can just remove the bypass valve and run the smog like directly down to the main cats just leaving the front valve in place (the one near the pump)

oh ok...well yeah i dont have cats and dont need the smog pump so decided to clean it all out...looks nicer now

If my cats are hollowed out, would the smog pump be causing a rich runninjg condition?
