starter grinding

Ok my starter came lose. So I looked at the belhousing and the place the bolt goes is cracket off. So I put all thread there and a nut in each end and tightened it. Tryed to start car and theres this nasty grinding sound. Tryed it like 3 times and the 3rd time now all I hear is the started spining. What can I do to fix this problem.

change the bell housing, it's broken. the starter was probally flexing due to it not having a strong enough mounting point to hold itself and wasn't lined up with the flywheel, the starter has a good amount of torque to it. you might have killed the starter also.
