Time differences between gear sets: 3.55 vs 3.73

yeah ive done a ton of reading on this and i hate to keep the subject going but i will be bringing my car to the shop to have this done and i would just like to make sure i got everything i need for them to do it. wut drive gear and driven gear will i need for 4.10s on a 94 mustang gt 5 speed? also will they be able to do this without pulling the transmission? just wondering how much to expect it to cost me. thanks

Search out speedcal ... I think it is called IIRC

It is an electronic interface that will adjust the electronic signal from
the sender mounted on the side of the trans

I have not used one but from the posts I have seen it seems like
it is around 100 bux but you do not have to do any work with
the trans

I know many here have used this device so maybe one of them might fill
in the blanks for you :)

yeah i looked it up last night. $100. not a bad price. basically i just want to go the route that will be cheaper for parts + labor. i know the speedo gears and whatnot are cheaper but will probably cost me a lot more in labor.

No No No!

The drive gear is not ON the tailshaft :nono:

It is IN the tailshaft

I don't see how anybody could replace it in just a few min's

btw ... it is the driven gear that is easy to replace ;)

yeah i didnt think it was a simple job thats why i was asking. so what do you think would be cheaper. getting the speed cal and having a shop install that while they're doing the gears, or getting the driven and drive gears. thanks again for the help

speedcal would probably be cheaper and quicker depending on what your shop charges for hourly labor rate. To change the gear out the tranny will have to be drained and the tailshaft unbolted then removed. After changing the gear it will have to be put back together with sealant and then refilled. Doubt all that would be less than a speedcal unless you do it yourself.

yeah $65 an hour. im looking at $160 for the gears. $150 for the installation kit. $300-$400 for labor. another $100 for speed cal and any labor that takes.

The speedcal just plugs in on the vss harness going into the side of the transmission and would probably take only 5 mins to install. Easily done yourself too.

i found this gear set kit at americanmuscle. looks like a good deal. comes with 4.10's speed cal and 3 bottles of royal purple synthetic gear oil. $285. just wanted to make sure this is the correct gear oil i would need. and my other question is the only other things i would need to install is friction modifier and the gear instalation kit correct? please let me know if im missing anything. http://www.americanmuscle.com/speedcal-410-gear-oil-kit.html
