Well I was looking around for a awd 4 cyl turbo car. One that i can drive in the snow while i tinker with my 5.0 on the winter days when im back in nj. I set my limit at 2500 for a car, and whadya know. One popped up..

A 91 Talon Tsi with 114xxx miles. Super straight body, prestine leather interior. No accident 2 owner car. So I went ahead and checked it out, got there and was informed something was wrong since it was smoking. ( I thought Rings)

Long story short, he took 800 for it, i took the head off and well.. It was the headgasket.

After Looking over the car some more i so far spotted an evo 3 turbo, Turbo Timer, 1000CC injectors. SAFC and it has a locker.

Anyone have any knowledge on these cars? I mean its something to beat on when im turning the five0 into a cherry.

Havent been able to romp on it yet, since its apart and needs the head gasket installed still. Im going slow, im a first timer on the dsm's.. I'm sure i'll get torched but hey, its something for now.

that sounds like it should run 12's with ease, the 4g63t engine is a beast! the rest of the car sucks, but at least you got a 1G car. if it has 1000cc injectors it HAS to have an eprom ecu, unless that pos safc is doing all the work? if its down, might as well but a new timing belt on there, these things will P to V instantly with an old belt at 7kprm..

you wouldn't happen to live in Indiana would you? I think i seen the same car on CL.

get a good FMIC and up the bewst, and get a walbro 255 if it already dosent have one.

pfsh i wish i knew! i just know what ive learned these past few weeks of browsing. by buddys a big tsi fan tho. i can get some knowledge off him. Im in Socal. Ive heard a lot of love and hate about these. some say its a breeze to work on. others say they arent. yeah the timing belt is brand new on it. i was thinking about throwing an aftermarket head on it with cams but i dont wanna put to much into it.

from what ive heard there pretty easy to make into a low 11 high 10 second car. And i loooove boost :nice:

Since it's your beater bad weather car, drive it like an old lady, or you will land up taking money that could go towards your mustang and investing it in your junker.

Those cars break alot, so use it for the rain and snow and that's it. You race it, and i can damn near guarantee you break it.
Make sure to put good all season or snow tires on it too, just because it's awd doesn't mean its good in the winter on summer tires. Ask any of the guys with evo's and summer rubber.

Very true, I see a lot of that in nj lol. Just cuz it's awd don't mean your gnna move in snow with slicks.

I was thinking about the Frankenstein head and cams. Or a holset kit. Not sure. It's gonna be a new addiction I know.

Can't wait to finish the gasket so I can start to play.

Have the head checked out, that's for sure, my mitsu starion (i believe the talon is really a mitsubishi) cracked the head in multiple places. It also may be warped
Also invest minimum possible until you know if it's going to devour oil, If it has any blow by, the turbo will multiply oil use by 10x in boost.
If it eats oil after you fix the head gasket, the engine is done.

Man, I loved those first and 2nd gen Starions. They just had a, "look" on em.

Sorry to interrupt. :)

Yeah, I'm having a leak down test done. And I'm having someone check the rings out before I assemble. I've read a head gasket job takes less then 2 hours on these cars as long as the head is not warped and u have all the tools.
