Camping

Call me a purist but I don't think camping in a "camper" is camping at all. To me that's like having a mobile home with you. Camping means in some form of makeshift shelter, be it a tent or actual makeshift shelter of some sort, or in a sleeping bag under the stars.

I love both, but I would agree.

However, the only tent camping I have done has been in camping grounds, so some would consider that experience as illegitimate camping I'm sure.

I have never done anything CT worthy

I hate camping.

Joined Cub Scouts in the 3rd grade because I really wanted to do the pinewood derby and two other things. After having quit Karate, baseball, basketball, and a few other activities, that's the one my parents chose to draw a line for, I was forced to stay in scouting until I got my Eagle or turned 18, whichever came first. All that damned camping I didn't want to do? Yeah, ruined camping for me.

So I'm a freaking Eagle Scout that hates camping.
But... I love my current CT.

...and just look at how well it fits.

I've done the sleeping bag / tent camping and it sucks. When we did the camper camping as a kid that's when we couldn't wait for the summer to come. We had some awesome times I'll never forget.

You know which ones I will always forget, sleeping in a tent on the floor with mosquito's so big they were trying to pick me up and carry us away. No wonder I needed neck surgery later in life.

If I were take my kids camping now I'm going to rent a big ass RV and since they are race fans we will go hit a race and camp out for a few days. Hmm..now I want to do this soon.

I have to at least partially agree with you there. The family and I used to camp quite a bit (been way to busy over the last year). It was all tent camping.

It was quite a chore to haul all of the necessary camping gear to and from the vehicle. It was usually a good walk as well since I could never see the logic in going to a camp ground and setting up camp next to the parking lot. The kids were a bit younger than they are now and griped and moaned about the pack-mule convoy of supplies to the site.

Long story short:

We bought a camper. I really do like the camper. I like having a place to go inside and read, get a recharge from conditioned air, or take a crap that's not in the woods or inside of a dwelling intended to house the beer chits of all the other campers.

What I don't like is having a bunch of teenaged puzzies (yes my kids are puzzies), sitting inside of the camper and watching movies or staring into a book from the comfort of their bunks. I much prefer that they go OUTSIDE!!!.

So while having a camper is very convenient for many things and did allow us to camp more often (only perishables need to be restocked) I do not like the side effect it has on 21st century kids who sit on their asses watching tard-toob.

Ultimately, I want a monster 5th wheel that is setup to accommodate two in luxury. It will have provisions to accommodate 2 others as well but not in any ideal fashion. What I mean is that all form and function will cater to the comfort of my wife and I while allowing short term guests. Our vision for retirement (when it's just us two) is to go where the F we wanna go and when we wanna go there. We watch the new offerings pretty carefully from a consumer standpoint and have a list of our must haves, really like to haves, would be nice to haves, and no effin way.

Big truck and 5th wheel seems the best way to go. We like having wheels wherever we end up. Motor homes are ridiculously priced for what you get, are a pain in the ass to work on, and often underpowered for their size and weight. Travel trailers on the other hand, cost considerably less and be appointed to be as nice as ANY mobile home on the road that doesn't fill an AT purpose.

I've thought about picking up a used pop-up camper before. See quite a few for around 1k.

It's not the same as a tent I agree, but I wouldn't be one to sit around in the camper all day anyways. Would be mostly for sleeping.

I've been camping since I could walk. Throughout my childhood I would go on trips, mostly to parks to do tent camping.

When I became close to my teen years, I lived a small lumber town and would camp for days to weeks depending on the time of year and supplies. No tents, built my own shelters and often hunted an fished for my own food. That continued into my teen years.

When I became a man, I went on a on and off 6 year camping trip for the government.

Nothing more peacefully then being in the middle of nature with nothing more than needed to enjoy the experience. I'll often go alone, bring the rifle, pistol and something to read.
