Surface rust is funny

Before and after. Just used a little pb blaster on a rag, then scotch pad, then rewiped with pb blaster

Swap the rockers and typically you should be fine with stock push rods on a GT40 swap. However, that will depend on how much they have to take off the heads when they surface them. Always check for correct pushrod length. Carbon build up at the top of the cylinder is best left alone. It’s going to build up again so not really worth the hassle of messing with it.

I’m gonna guess the head studs are on the lower shelf of one of the benches. Better question is where is the packet of molly grease? Also, did you remember the thread sealer for all the bottom bolts?

Mount heads is next. Any other cleaning I should think about? I hope not!

Ill wipe down block with clean cloth, then parts cleaner with another clean cloth wipe down. Then gasket, heads, then bolts. Ill be watching plenty of videos on head mounting. Im sure folks here have their methods.

Any gotcha's other than those 2 aluminum dowel things per head which hold the gasket in place? Any RTV needed for the heads?
 
BTW - at machine shop this morning guy was working on a Ford 289 from Mustangs 95-whatever.

Had 4 valves per cylinder, 4 cams, master and slave timing chains. Oh, and not one pushrod apparently. That thing looked ... busy. No thank you
 
Anyone ever used this method for valve adjustment? Seems simpler. Though point/position 2 has no cylinder with both valves being done. Weird.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but.....

Isn't that misleading with the left hand column being labeled 302? Shouldn't it designate that that is for non-HO motors? Don't 5.0 HO motors belong in the right hand column, since they have the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order?
 
As long as its on the base circle of the cam.... A bump switch on the starter relay makes doing them easy...

If you do not have a bump switch (which are awesome) pull the plugs so its easier to roll the motor over by hand.

Yes sir, 302 roller cam motors are on the 351W firing order.
 
So with the felpro gasket I just flip it over as needed? Front says front? Also, one of the jackets doesn’t align exactly. I’m assuming that’s OK?

Gasket will block off some of the water ports. Front goes to front and remember to bring the bolts up to torqued spec on three steps. Put sealant on the shorter bolts as they go into the water jacket. When you have it all torqued up let it sit overnight then final torque the head bolts one more time.

I usually let the motor heat cycle once or twice then pull the valve covers and final torque again.

Are you going to stud the lower intake?
