    stainless exhaust guys, welding question

I figured that might be the case. I know stainless is a little harder than mild, I was wondering if the metals would fuse correctly. How do you think it would turn out if I used stainless wire with the gas I already have (25/75 Ar, CO2)?

    302 Engine Noise

You need 2 things. First is a length of hose, garden hose or heater hose. Several feet. Cup your hand around one end and hold it to your ear, use the other end to probe around and see if you can pinpoint the noise. This works well for noises on the outside of the engine, like exhaust leaks...

    stainless exhaust guys, welding question

I'm thinking of running the magnaflow 2.5" exhaust. I want to install it myself. Can I weld stainless with a MIG? I know you can buy a kit; I saw a picture of it and it looks like a huge crazy gun. Is that really necessary? I know a lot of guys are running this exhaust. I don't want to...

    anyone else...

Oh yeah, the itch is itching. Problem is the car is in a lot of pieces right now. I can't wait til it's back together though!

    Quarter panels?

Thanks for the pics, I think I've got it figured out now. I ended up cutting the quarter along the wheel lip, and the outer house along the seam where it meets the inner. I'm going to try to use quarter patch panels rather than the whole thing since the whole quarter costs about 4x as much as...

    Engine Pull

Take the extra 10 minutes to mark every wire, hose, or whatever else you unhook and you'll save yourself big headaches later. I use masking tape. Put all your fasteners in marked ziplock bags or jars, or back in the holes they came out of. Make sure you have a bag of that spill-clean-up...

    Quarter panels?

Who has done them? I have some rust in the back of my car; wheelhouses, trunk floor, frame rails, and quarters. The rust in the quarters may not be bad enough to justify replacing them, but I'm trying to get the wheelhouses out and it's pretty tough with the quarters in there. It looks like...

To tint or not to tint

Yeah I like a light tint, like 35% on the back and 35-50% on the sides. One important thing to remember about tinting the back windows on these old cars is that your reverse lights are pretty anemic, and it's hard to see backing up at night. I put fog lights on the back of mine, solved that...

    69/70 MT owners, help please

I'm modifying my trans tunnel to fit the tr-3550 in my 66, and I need a shift boot. I've looked at several designs; I think the stock 65-68 boot will be a little too small for what I want, and there are some universal designs out there I could look into, but it looks like the stock 69/70 boot...

    Lifters

It's not a hard job. I don't know 351W's but on a 302 you would just pull the intake and remove one rocker arm and pushrod, and the lifter pulls right out. Finding the bad lifter may be a little harder than actually replacing it. I don't know if 351s have adjustable rocker arms, but I'm...

    how to thin por-15?

Yeah I was planning on brushing it, and I should just need the thinner for cleanup.

    how to thin por-15?

Aircraft stripper will take everything off. That's what they call it; it's just a chemical stripper. I used it before, it's messy and toxic and it takes a little while to work, but it's head and shoulders better than sandpaper. You used to be able to get it at the auto parts store, but I...

    how to thin por-15?

Does anybody know what solvent/solvents to use to thin that stuff and clean it up? The can says to use their thinner at $11/quart (plus shipping), but it seems like I should be able to buy something at the hardware store for half that that would do the job. I'm about to get to the point where...

    Cost Effective

Nobody has mentioned the brakes/steering/suspension upgrades. 6 to 8 ain't just an engine and a tranny, there's a lot to it. If the car isn't special to you and you really want a v-8 car, I'd see about buying one that already has the v-8 in it. I had a 67 coupe with a 200 in it for a couple...

    Modular motor or rebuild

Since you have plenty of room for it, why not just do a 351 stroker? The stroker kit is the most expensive part of the build anyway, unless you already have the 289 block machined, good heads, and other small block specific performance parts. A fairly mild 392 or 408 would give you 400 rwhp no...

Here's what I've been up to (66 fb, work in progress)

Yeah it really is a big job, I had no idea how big when I got into it. I got lucky this year though; it's senior year and I got extra loans this year because I applied on time, so I decided what the hell, might as well quit my job and not have to work for a few months before I hit the real...

Here's what I've been up to (66 fb, work in progress)

I've been lurking around here a bit, not saying much, but I just figured I'd let you guys see what I've been doing. I have had this car since 2000, and it's been sitting a lot lately, but around October I really started digging into it. I've been keeping a website but I figured I'd wait and...

    Questions from a newbie

I have a Lincoln 140A 110V welder, and I'm happy with it. So far I've installed a floor pan, framerails, seat platforms, and I'm working on a roll cage. That's all with gas-shielded wire; they say it's good for 5/16" with the flux-cored stuff but I don't like to use that when I don't have to...

    Purpose of Steam Holes?

Does anybody have pics of these steam holes? I've never heard of them. I have Edelbrock heads and ran them for a couple years with no heating problems, but the engine was mild. I have water passage holes, but I don't see any others.
