Empty Carb Bowls & Long Starts- ideas to remedy this?

Howdy all, I have a 65 289 with an Edelbrock 600. The problem is that the car takes longer and longer to start, proportional to the days it's sat- up to about 4 days, then it takes the same long length to start it (30 seconds) I posted a little about this before, and D. Hearn was right, the...

Headers & hard, hot starting- Solutions?

Fixed New starter=fixed. When I pulled the old one off, it had a remanufactured date of 96, so it was ~10 years old. for $50, I now have a 'lifetime replacement' one. Side note- DAMN the battery post on the starter is close to the Tri-Y headers- like .25 of an inch!

65GT/66 dash cluster question (what numbers do they mean?)

Welcome to 60's technology. Toss some real gauges in the glove box if you are worried about it- I have a temp gauge in there for that reason.

Difficult starting after sitting for a few days

Howdy all, 289 w/ rebuilt Edelbrock 600. -If the car sits for 3+ days, it takes 20 seconds for it to fire up, no matter how many times you pump the pedal, etc. -If I fire it up a day after driving it, it starts up with little problem. It has always done this, before and after the carb...

Headers & hard, hot starting- Solutions?

Howdy folks, I have a 289 A code 65 gt convertible- starts well enough when it's cold. When it has been driven for a bit, and I turn it off to go into a store for 5 minutes, then come out to fire it up, it's... angry. It turns the starter- barely. If I wait 30 minutes, it fires up like...

Old inspection stickers & reissued plates (Texas ? & info)

Hey old timers, what side did the texas 1965 inspection sticker go on? I think it goes on the passenger-side corner of the windshield, but not sure. FYI getting plates reissued in Texas- -TX recently went to one rear plate only- no front plate needed- finally! -make sure your old plate...

Ride height questions- Reverse eyes, oh my

Also looking for suggestions on shackles and such- poly, rubber, or something else? I'm not going with the $$$ global west ones- I need something that is a good street/strip combo- I want it to ride nice, but take corners well. Also looking for suggestions on rear springs- I know Mustang's...

Ride height questions- Reverse eyes, oh my

After the mods listed below, the front sits at 23.5" The question is about the rear, I have not started on it yet. Looking to cure the cat-in-heat look. As far as I know, it has re-arched springs circa 1993- it currently sits at 25" I'm thinking mustang plus' 4.5 leaf reverse eye to get...

    Re installing axels- Problem

what did it need? it needed determination. Rotating the installed axle had no effect. very easy fix- I grabbed the driveshaft and the axle in question and wiggled 'em back and forth. all of a sudden it's happy. tomorrow is the big test drive- should be great- this one fix will quash several...

    Re installing axels- Problem

both good questions. Yes, they are in the right sides. they are dramatically different. next, they seem to be pressed in to the right depth. I think (and have tried) the wiggle technique. wiggle, wiggle, push, push; should go in. not yet. tomorrow I'll try more of this...

    Re installing axels- Problem

Howdy all, I just replaced the bearings on the axles of my 65. It has a 3.00 "equal lock" rear end. one axle & bearing just went back with no issues. the other one is either tight at the bearing-to-axle area, or it is having problems going back into the pumpkin. Do I just whack the crap...

Odd fix for backfiring through the carb

FYI for those good kiddies that use the search feature of this site. I had a really odd problem of backfiring through the carb when I put any load on the engine- you could drive, but you have to very slowly accelerate or POP POP goes the carb. Edelbrock 600 1406. I totally rebuilt the...

    Another brake question (different?)

Looks like there is an option or two. Mustang Depot has one for rear drum/front disk. http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/Brakes/power_brake_parts.htm and there is a disk/disk setup at NPD, pg 47. Ultrastang has an interesting idea and 1/3 of the price with a 2.3L booster and MC setup...

    Another brake question (different?)

Anyone? I know brake MC questions are everywhere, but this one is little different to keep the masses interested... maybe a little.. 4 wheel power brake setup with the granada swap. Dead booster, and I need a dual reservoir MC. What would you do? (looking for home-grown kits, I don't want a...

    1966 coupe speaker problem

with a little work, you might get that head unit to work- they usually don't go bad- especially if you are using RCA jacks from the HU- the internal amps in the HU can fry, but the RCA out is usually ok. but I bet you want an ipod-able HU... so do I. ;)

    1966 coupe speaker problem

first check the wiring- wiring from the head unit to the amp, and to the speakers. I'd wire around the amp to test. run temp wires from the head unit (it has it's own power 95% of the time) to the speakers. see what happens. still crap? speakers might be trashed. plays well? amp might...

    1966 Mustang Speakers...

just bought kick panel speaker blanks. no one really says what size they really are. THEY HOLD 5.25" SPEAKERS. not 6 or 6.5. At least these from mustangsplus. You can't change them to make them fit 6.5s either- there would be no lip for attachment. They are shallow too- most should fit...
