    Ok, just took off the driver's side valve cover, put each cyl to tdc, pulled the plugs and fished around inside the cylinders with a magnet.... Nothing. All of the valves were there, no broken springs or dropped valves... Also checked the balancer, the rubber ring is intact. To be more...

    I think what was previously said was correct, the law applies to '66 and later. If I did have to test my '65 though, having a smog license I'd have to overlook any portions of the test that didn't meet 'state' approval. :D Why smogging your own car is legal, I don't know.

    How do you diagnose your ignition system?

    I have the same ignition setup as you do, the pertronix ignitor and coil using stock distrib. When I hooked mine up, I used the resistor wire, and recently read this article saying that the coil needs a full 12 volts. Anything less and the system will not operate efficiently...
