    Something else to think about...He bought his short block for $3000. Heads were a grand, carb was 500 and then about 2500 in other various machining and parts he said. That's about $7500 and it makes 555 RWH and 676 RWT. So our engine is $800 cheaper but makes more than 250 less horse and...

    A 428 would be great in the S197

    My neighbor has a 428 in his 69 Cougar and just had it dyno'd this weekend and has 555 RWhorses and 676 RWtorque ... all N/A The 428 is narrower than the modular 4.6 so fitting shouldn't be an issue. I'd love to have that in my S197.

    No jacking on the rear diff.

    I noticed on the owners manual it says not to jack on the rear differential. I've always used the rear differential to raise the rear end. Any reason for this?

    there was a clip on the bolt that held the rear mounting bracket on but only on one of the bolts.

    2 things bigcat.... that was a BITCH to get the new shifter back thru the opening... and I hoped the clip on the rear mount bolt was just something Ford used during assembly cuz i ripped that MF'er out of there and didn't put it back on.
