Electrical Can't get my SW oil pressure gauge to work properly.

It's a brand new Stewart Warner Wings electric oil pressure gauge. When I turn the key to 'on' it stays at zero but as soon as I hit 'start' the gauge pegs at 80 psi and stays there. However, after I start it once, then shut it off, if I turn it to 'on' again then it pegs at 80. If I let it sit...

Paint and Body How does my cowl look

I would just leave it alone.....or scuff the area with a 3M scotchbrite pad and hit with some satin black. But really, who's gonna shine a light down through your cowl grill to see if you detailed that hidden area? Looks really clean and there's a factory coating on the metal already.

Interior and Upholstery Tips for getting a shift knob to line up?

Find the cheapest open end wrench of the appropriate size you have in your box and grind it down to the thickness you need, to fit between the handle and ball. Grab the nut and loosen.

Made a small timing adjustment, now it won't start.

A magnetic 4mm allen wrench will work for that hard to reach screw. View: https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Ball-Magnetic-P-Handled-Wrench/dp/B07D72LK6L?th=1

Engine Removing EGR Valve from Phlenum

Yeah, they're a pain! The steel studs tend to corrode into the aluminum on the spacer and the manifold. My go to is PB Blaster but Kroil works great too. Spray the penetrant, tap on the studs with a ball peen hammer, several times. Soak and tap over and over. Bang on the EGR spacer with a...

    Engine Timing question

I believe the oil pump is a Melling M68 which is standard volume, standard pressure pump. I have an older SW mechanical gauge, some cap tube and fittings laying around. I'll hook that up and see what it reads. But, why would the brand new electric gauge peg? Oil too thick and cold? I ran the...

    Engine Timing question

Set base timing at 13* BTDC with SPOUT out and with SPOUT back in it runs about 22*. Does that sound right? It also has a lopey sound to it but it's the factory roller cam. Open headers if that makes a difference. Also, what's oil pressure supposed to be at? My SW electric gauge pegs at...

Interior and Upholstery Heater box cover kit

That heater box and console cover kit is pretty neat but, at $175 I think I'd rather make my own. A couple of pieces of 1/8" ABS plastic cut to size, a few black wafer head screws and a couple of pieces of Velcro to mount it and you're done!

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

Alright, for those who don't know...............THE GENERAL IS A ROCK STAR!!! Went out to the garage, set the balancer to 0*, popped the cap and sure enough.....the rotor was pointing to the #6 plug wire tower! Pulled the distributor, reset it so the rotor points to #1, turned the key and it...

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

Ok, sanded down the balancer and found the timing marks.....duh! Set it to 0* at the compression stroke. Pulled 4 plugs, put my thumb over the #1 hole and spun it by hand until my thumb blew off. I also pirated the fuel pressure gauge off the roadster and installed it. With the key ON and...

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

I may see something on there! I'll have to go sand down the balancer. I'll report back.

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

Good info! As far as I can tell it's the factory balancer. I've had the balancer off, cleaned and sanded and there were no graduation marks on it at all. Kinda surprised me! Here's a pic as I pulled the motor out of the Mustang.......... Firing order has been triple checked for a 1993...

    PLENUM N VALVE COVER COLORS

Are you painting the car High Gloss Pine Green or the engine, or both? In either case, I'd definitely paint the upper intake with Alumablast. Autozone has it...

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

This is the mark on the opposite side of the balancer. Maybe I used the wrong mark? There're no hash marks anywhere on the balancer.

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

Mine doesn't fire and quit, it doesn't fire at all. There's no timing graduations on my stock balancer. Just a groove across the balancer that I painted white. When the piston is at TDC that white groove line is right at the edge of the silver timing pointer. There is fuel and spark so I'm...

Engine Can't get the motor to fire.

If it's not one thing, it's another! Now I can't get the motor to start. '93 5.0 from a Mustang. Basically, a fresh rebuild. I've got fuel (shoots out when I depress the schrader valve) and spark (good spark outta the plug wires). At TDC the timing mark is where it's supposed to be and the...
