Will a rear end girdle increase life span of 8.8 rear?

damac, I've been running 11.70's with 1.7-1.8 short times on ET Streets for a long time. Recently, I switched to shorter gears and taller/stickier tires and my times dropped to 11.50's with 1.6 short times. 11.30's were achieved in 40 degree air; 11.50 is more typical. And yes, this is with...

Will a rear end girdle increase life span of 8.8 rear?

I've been having pretty good luck with the stock 8.8 trac lock. I'm making 455 rwhp, have about 150 passes and I had it rebuilt twice. I know its time to rebuild when I start getting one-wheel burnouts. It seems like a good strategy to just rebuild the rear every couple of years, instead of...

Clutch, a step above the rest?

There's also another option, Anderson FM came out with some new clutches (called "hi-rev"). They have different stages for different power levels. I don't know if they're any good, but AFM has a good reputation. As for me, I have SPEC 3. Its grabs great at the track, but definitely not for...

Shop that does good welding/repair/fab near Howard County MD?

The shaft that holds the idler pully broke off the front of my engine, and I'm looking for a shop that can either weld it back on or fab up a new piece. I'm in Ellicott City MD. in Howard County (near Columbia). Any recommendations? Thanks

So my SPEC 3 died...I think

A little background: I have about 45 passes on my SPEC 3 clutch, and about 9000 miles of mixed street/highway. My 60' times aren't that spectacular -in the 1.7-1.8's typically. I'm making 455 rwhp via a Vortech S-trim and have 4.10 gears. After my 2nd pass today, the problem arose. Funny...

    pulley noise

I had an idler pulley go bad. It seized up an threw off the belt. This happened in the middle of the highway. But this was the older Vortech idlers (small, plastic pieces of crap). I got a newer, stronger pulley. You might want to try to isolate which pulley is making the noise, and...

    oil leak with my vortech?

It's most likely the oil feed line. Mine leaked too. If you put your finger where it connects to the blower, I bet you'll find that its wet. I tried tightening it too, but it still leaked. One option would be to remove it and replace the brass washer/fittings. Vortech sells an upgraded...

    4.30's and a centri blower

(this is for a 5-speed) I love the top-end with my vortech; from 4000 rpms to the redline, the car transforms into a monster. However, below 4000 rpms, there's really very little difference from stock. I have 3.73's right now. So I'm thinking that 4.30's will take care of this dilemma...

Is it safe for a Donut?

The rims are fine, but the tires should be replaced with real ones. In fact, the rims are made of steel and are stronger than aftermarket rims. Unfortunately, this means they're heavier too.

Help: weird Electrical problem during start-up

I have my battery mounted in the trunk. Everything checks out OK there...maybe I need to check things in the front.

Help: weird Electrical problem during start-up

Sometimes when I start my car, the speedometer and tachometer needles swing out to their full scale max values for about a second (like some type of surge), then behave normal afterwards. Sometimes all I need to do is put the key in the ignition and turn half way (without cranking the engine)...

    13.7 @ 104

With that mph, you could hit 12.9's. But you need to work on your launch to get there.

Need help -car is down. Vortech idler(?) pulley

My serpentine belt came off while driving. I noticed the idler pulley on the S-Trim (purple colored, smooth pulley) was the cause. It's ****ed over to one side -looks like the bearing are gone. My questions: 1.) Is this normal wear/tear, or does this indicate a bigger problem? Never had a...

    Catbacks and Horsepower

If HP is your goal, then there are definitely better ways to spend your money than a catback. Factory cats (all six of them) are the biggest bottleneck in the exhaust. But if you think you'll be getting headers in the future, you may want to hold off on the X-pipe as well, since that would...

    Catbacks and Horsepower

Based on my experience, I don't think you'll see any significant gains with either catback. I have a blower, and got zero gain after a Magnaflow catback. The X-pipe is a diifferent story -it netted me about 25 rwhp. To me, a catback is a "sound mod", not a performance mod.
