    Re-torquing heads

    I have edelbrock heads. I have installed them twice following the directions and haev re torqued them. Neither time did they need it. Not telling you not too, just what I found. Make sure to clean out bolt holes, follow with a tap, and lubricate them properly.

    Thats correct. No chips, scratches, burrs, concaveness (sp?). All are free in the lifter bores. All spinning. Just one lifter that is not fully extended. The retaining clips is loose in the lifter bore and there is almost an 8th of an inch clearance . It is very stuck. I do plan to check again...

    I was aware of all of the oil problems and used the Comp Cams break in stuff. Changed the oil and filter after break in and am using Valvolene VR1 which is supposed to have more of the necessary additive. IT is also a Comp Cam with their lifters. Is their stuff bad?

    Thanks, Screw ins with roller rockers. The only thing other than a bad lifter that I can think of is to back down on oil weight. I am running stright 40 now in mild temps. I'll try a multi viscosity. I appreciate the reply.

    Cleaning Head gasket surfaces

    I start by scraping with a gasket scraper than use a wire brush on a drill. I finish by rinsing with carb cleaner and a rag. Too rough an abrasive can/will dig into the aluminum.

    If you have the piston out of the car, make a mold of everything on top and measure how much water fills the mold. That will be close.
