    Spare Wheel Mounting

When my full size spare was bolted down w/ the stock rod and t handle, I just wrapped the jack in a small towel to avoid scratching and noise and placed it inside the overturned tire. I am not sure what you mean by supporting the spare w/ the jack. I have since gone to an aluminum mini spare...

    Electrical problems are not sexy

Thanks for the good responses. I spent time looking at it detail last night and, yes, the power wire is run next to a speaker wire. So one of those should be relocated? As for ensuring good ground, the amp will be easy to check as the wires are easy to find/see. The head unit wires are...

    Electrical problems are not sexy

Unlike cool projects that boost horsepower, handling, etc., my electrical problem is not a fun challenge. Basically, when I turn on my stereo (head unit and amp), engine on or off, there is a clicking/buzzing that comes thru the speakers. Increasing the volume does drown out the noise. I know...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

Superb Thread! Question: do the coups have the same stock divider set up (panel or lack there of) behind the rear seat? I ask because my vert has a steel panel immediately behind the rear seat that is clearly stock. It comes up about 3/4 of the way to the top of the seat back. Is that in...

    Best adjustable rear shocks?

I am going to start by removing weight from the trunk. Anyone aware of a mini spare to replace the full size? Also, the new under seat woofers might help to get that heavy 10"/box out of the trunk. Anyone have experience with those?

    Best adjustable rear shocks?

The springs are new, 4 leaf, stock rate, 1" lowering block. I would like to try different shocks before replacing the springs again.

    Best adjustable rear shocks?

My '68 conv has a bottoming problem at the rear. The front is fine w/ cut stock springs and KYB GR-2s. The rear has new stock 4 leafs with 1" lowering blocks and GR-2s. What rear shock could I install that would be adjustable to dial in the comfort/stiffness? I don't know much about...

    Monte Carlo Bar Fitment Question

My curved Monte carlo was easy to install BECAUSE it is rather weak by being bent. The straight bar I have was slightly too long (my towers have moved inwards a little over 40 years) and also did not clear the distributor. Hence the curved bar. Monte Carlo bars are really only effective in...

    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

Mustbereel, what a great post. I have welded Global West SFCs but dont really know what the welded stringers mean? I put the export brace on my vert, along with the "bent" Monte Carlo at the same time. Now I know which to thank for the decrease in front end and cowl shake.

    Mustangs Unlimited Headers Update

My initial post regarding the first set of headers was based somewhat in frustration. I will keep to the facts.

    Mustangs Unlimited Headers Update

The replacement set of headers from MU arrived in brand new condition with all parts, gaskets, bolts, etc. The welds and port shaping are again a little primitive, but reasonable for the price (about $230). The bolt hole spacing is correct and they fit without issue. For the price, and...

    Nightmare Mustangs Unlimited Headers

This list has been very valuable to me in helping solve or avoid many issues. Many high volume vendors may not be as committed to the quality received by each individual as smaller volume fabricator/vendors. I will continue to be grateful for alerts from this list to avoid possible pitfalls...

    Nightmare Mustangs Unlimited Headers

The MU catalog does not specify the manufacturer and the sales reps don't know.

    Nightmare Mustangs Unlimited Headers

The phone rep was helpful but said several times that they have No Control over what is sent out to customers. If that's true, they need basic schooling in commitment to quality. I do hope that by posting this there will be two possible outcomes: 1. Word gets back to MU that they have a...

    Nightmare Mustangs Unlimited Headers

Beware the Tri-ys from Mustangs Unlimited. The welds look like they were done by a child and a previous purchaser had drilled/egged out the holes trying to get them to fit. The compressed/torn gaskets and dents were clue that something was wrong. They have given me a return authorization...

    Strange Starting Delay

Replaced the 1 year old, $25, Made in USA starter solenoid switch last night with a new $10 Chinese knock off. Problem solved.

    Strange Starting Delay

Sure wish I had the '68 CJ Big Block. However its just a garden variety 289. Tonight I'll try replacing the started solenoid relay. I looked at the ignition switch and it looks tough to replace as the dash curls under below the switch. I'll look at the shop manual to see if it describes...

    Strange Starting Delay

After turning the ignition key to start the car, there is absolute silence for about 2-3 seconds, then it starts as normal. The starter solenoid relay is about 1 year old, and the starter is about 2 yrs old. I have not yet checked the battery voltage, but the motor starts quickly once the...

How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

Sounds like good advice so I just bought some used tri-ys to play with. Next question: since '68 heads have the smog bump (I have not looked inside but think they are the orig heads) is there some way to remove or reduce the bump without removing the heads? Probably a stupid question. I think...

How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

Going from a stock 289 to any high performance motor is going to be an amazing change. Since I don't need to squeeze every last ft. lb. out of the block, I'll be going the 331 route. Because of my conservative nature, I'll want to verify that any crate 331 that I buy doesn't require oil ring...
