Best shift point on NPI 98 GT 5 speed

:stupid: I usually hit 5500 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Little higher going into 5th at approx 5700-5900 rpm. Managed under 15 secs in 1/4 mile with 4.10s (still completely stock NPI motor) and mine is a 'vert.

    what would YOU do?

Flow 10's are really LOUD! If that's what you want, get an H pipe for them! Personally, gears are always the best first mod in my book (and nearly everyone else's too!).

    All Aluminum Explorer Engine Swap?

Or even an aluminum Mark 8 4.6 DOHC Motor! Not to dis the Nav's motor, that sucker would be awesomely sweet too! That's something worth considering. You could find an ol' Lincoln Mk 8 for pretty cheap these days, pull the motor and rebuild the aluminum block with forged internals, port the...

    shortining your antena

Yup, better go get one myself all thanks to the local car wash taking mine off and losing it (which I didn't notice until later in the evening as I was listening to CDs). Maybe I should send them the bill!

    Actual results? 3.73 vs 4.10

It's funny how it's always 3.73 vs 4.10s. 3.90s are a great alternative gear that should also be mentioned and not ignored. I started to go with 3.90s after my drivetrain mechanic highly recommended them. The only thing that kept me from doing that was I wanted the extra performance to post a...

6k to spend on heads and cams

Just get a KB supercharger and be done with it. That sucker would be a BEAST! That's what I'd do if I had 6k to spend on mine. If the 4.10's are too steep for your setup, then go 3.73s.

    My dyno results!

Great #'s. :nice: Hopefully one day I'll get to spend some dough on some decent tunes/parts/mods but for now, I'm kind of stuck in stock '98 world. At least the gears aren't though.

EST..1/4 mile time after PI headswap and 4.30's install

I believe you'll see pretty good mid-high 13s, but you'll definitely need some good hookup with some DRs/slicks before you start getting anywhere near or below 13.00.

you guys heard about the ford fires involving the cruse control switch?????

Never a problem with my F150. I have CC but never use it though. I just don't like using CC, especially in the 'Stang.

Why dont people run higher gears?

It's mainly preference. I got 4.10s and very happy as compared to the stock 2.73s I used to have. But I should have listened to my mechanic and got the 3.90s which he said seemed the better choice between 3.73s/4.10s. I would have at least like to have tried something a little different, not...

Motive 4.10s vs FRPP 4.10s + Bonus question!

Have you considered Motive 3.90s? That would give you a little extra gear running 3rd past the traps. I hear people that have them rave about them as many were those who decided on these instead of the normal 3.73 vs 4.10 gears that most talk about. When I had my gears installed the mechanic...
