    Bottom end, redo or leave it alone...

    Recently bought the 87 LX 5.0 motor with 78,000 miles on it that people here helped me figure out was a real H.O. motor..thanks guys! Now, should I bother touching the bottom end? OR take it to the local machine shop, have it hot-tanked, cleaned up, new bearings, rings?

    Thanks for all the input...I'm learning fast. Will pick up the 87 LX motor with 80,000 miles on it tomorrow for the huge sum of $140 bucks. Now where can I find those Gt40 heads and that E303 cam! LOL It'll never end....

    Have a chance to buy a 302 short block from an 87 LX. From my research here it should be : Roller block, just not a roller cam. Easy to convert to roller BUT Do they still have the forged pistons like the H.O.? Thanks, Andrew

    I'm learning.... So it comes down to explorer?moutaineer motor with the good heads, change out the cam and springs and your good to go...OR 86-92 forged Mustang HO and switch out to gt40 or gt40p head? What am I getting into? My mind won't shut down! LOL!!!! Andrew

    I agree with H here. One of the main selling points of these motors is that they are dyno tuned and come delivered ready to go with a DVD of the motor being broken in on the dyno. T&L at the minimum should at least keep the dialogue open, and the practice of not returning e-mails is very bad...

    AOD guys, lockup or non-lockup converter

    It was going to be a stock unit..BUT thanks to Dodgestang I went to the Clickclick racing forum and all I have to say is WOW!, what a wealth of information. Probably will go with one of Dan's builds. Just have to see how hard this AOD swap might be to do on my own.
