    NOS Top Shot

Toying with the idea of spraying my engine with a 100 shot. I know I don't have the hood clearance to put in a power shot system which uses a 1/2" carb spacer for the spray bar. I was looking at the Top Shot system which is a clever set that mounts under the air cleaner and shoots down through...

    289 Head question

Get a new mechanic! Seriously. As long as the manifold is for a Ford 289 it will work...period. The only possible way it wouldn't is for example you have the heads milled way down, then you would have to get the manifold milled so the surface angles would match. But to say a 4 bbl intake...

where to get a new starter?

I have the Kragen $40 lifetime special on my new 306 and it does just fine. Really don't know what type of engine would justify a $180 starter. I know I am close to 400 horses with no cranking problems at all, and if it does go...who cares I've got the lifetime warranty!

    MSD-6 ignition-tach not working

Tom, Let me know if it works. I have the exact same problem. Can you give me the part # for the adapter so I can make sure to get the right one? Thanks.

    Car driving me crazy...

Once you've cleaned all your connections, and it still doesn't start then I'd say it has to be the neutral safty switch. Assuming you have an Auto, try pushing the shift handle forward with a pretty good amount of force while turning the key. If it works then that is your problem. You can...

    Compression Ratio?

Thanks. Yes, that is .008 in the hole. The only other alteration is the heads were milled .025. So I'm thinking that should put it to 9.9-10. In any case 10:1 was the goal, so I'm happy. Thanks for the link, the others, like I said were all coming out different.

    Compression Ratio?

I used 5 different comp. ratio calculators, and they all gave me a different ratio ranging from 9.77 - 11.8. Here are the stats: Bore: 4.030 Stroke: 3.00 Deck: .008 Gasket:.0041 Combustion Chamber: 58cc Piston Vol.: 2.7cc Anyone with a valid calculator that can run this for me...

It is done everyday. No problems at all using it, in fact it is often preferred. You get function and good looks.

    306 is in and running!

That's cool. I'm going to call today and set an appointment for next Saturday. It is running good. Only problems are 1. I can't adjust the electric choke because the new valve covers are so tall. I actually have to lift up the carb or take off a valve cover to get to the bottom screw...

    Power Steering Compatibilty

Trying to make it work will only test your patience. And like already stated, it will probably do more harm than good considering the spacing and fitment issues you'll have.

    C-4 ??

Not to sound insulting, but is the fluid level correct? For it to "feel like the brakes were applied" sounds like the bands are getting a lot of friction. If it is not the fluid, than I say it has to be the band adjustment. I know the book says 10 ft lbs, but something like band adjustments...

    306 is in and running!

Let me know about the dyno day, that would be be cool. Are they doing it at superior? Troy, I've noticed, doesn't get in too much of a hurry, so if I were you I would give him a prod. Maybe if you go and pick your engine up it will light a match under his A$$ to get you the catalog layout...

    306 is in and running!

Chris, what's up man? It took him 10 days to get it back to me from the time I dropped everything off. He said 8, but you know how it goes. He actually came in on a Saturday to finish the engine for me because he said it would be done on Friday and wasn't. So I showed up on Sat. and he...

    C-4 ??

If it is from a 1978, then it is not a green dot. If the modulator is not the problem, then you may be in for some difficult trouble shooting. If it is a recent rebuild, then the obvious would be that something didn't get replaced correctly. Good luck with figuring it out, I know how...

    306 is in and running!

FPS doesn't have a chassis dyno, only an engine dyno. That is well and good but like most I want RWHP. I usually go to Superior, but your right, $150 for a pull is steep, and if they need to jet your carb you can double that. Problem is I don't know of any other reputable shops with a...

    C-4 ??

I agree with geo, sounds like the vacuum modulator might be an issue. It will defineatly mess with the shifts if not working properly. You could always change it out just to rule it out. They're pretty cheap.

    306 is in and running!

Ya, the carb is in need of some tweeking, it runs, but like I said it is a little fat. I'm going to take it over in about two weeks, once I've broken it in a little, and have it dynoed. I figure then I can get the carb tuned and jetted if need be, get the timing worked out and then it will be...

    306 is in and running!

Well, if any of you remember, I recently added AFR heads, MSD, and a cam to my original 289 and didn't quite get the performance I was hoping for, in fact it only netted me around 25 RWHP on the dyno. Because I didn't want a $1,300 dollar set of heads to wear away on an engine I wasn't really...
