Well, if any of you remember, I recently added AFR heads, MSD, and a cam to my original 289 and didn't quite get the performance I was hoping for, in fact it only netted me around 25 RWHP on the dyno. Because I didn't want a $1,300 dollar set of heads to wear away on an engine I wasn't really happy with I had Ford Performane Solutions in Anaheim build me a Roller 306 and they used all of the goodies they could off the 289 to keep the cost down. So, I pulled the 289, took them everything they could use, got a good deal on a block and crank from 66P51GT, and they supplied the rest.

So now I have a Roller 306, balanced & blueprinted, port matched AFR 165's, Weiand stealth intake, Holley 670 SA, Main girdle, windage tray, crank scraper, Full MSD, Powermaster 1 wire alt, custom grind cam (can't remeber the specs) lift is 512 & 520, 7/16 rocker studs with RPM full roller rockers, forged eagle I beam rods, TRW forged alum. pistons, flow kooler water pump, Canton 7qt pan, Blueprinted Melling oil pump from Precison pumps, TCI street fighter C-4 with TCI 2400 stall. Add in a few bucks for misc. and there you have it. I feel like a new Dad with this thing!

Anyways, I finished the installation yesterday. I was able to do everything myself with the exception of putting the hood back on. That is a two man job...period. Taking it off by my self was a PIA though. Took me 5 total working days to pull the old and install the new... I am tedious. I had a hard time getting the distributor to line up directly with the #1 plug on the cap, spent about 3 hours on that, but besides that everything else went really well. Fired it up and she runs! I definatly need to tune the carb because it is way fat, and I have to work out the timing. It runs best at about 24 degrees, which I think is way too high, but it dies when I turn it down to 14. I'll work on the fine tuning this weekend.

Anyways...the 306 is in it runs and I saw no leaks after a 20 minute idle and 30 minute cruise. I think I can safly say...SUCCESS! ohh, ya.....I did open it up once just too see, and even though it is fat on the carb, WOW. It is going to be fun.

Ya, the carb is in need of some tweeking, it runs, but like I said it is a little fat. I'm going to take it over in about two weeks, once I've broken it in a little, and have it dynoed. I figure then I can get the carb tuned and jetted if need be, get the timing worked out and then it will be ready for action. I can already ready tell it is going to be impressive. You can just feel the engine wanting to rip it up. Nice, slightly lopy idle through the flowmaster makes it sound a bit intimidating also. It is nice having that locker in the rear as well, because it would give a peg leg rear end hell.

FPS doesn't have a chassis dyno, only an engine dyno. That is well and good but like most I want RWHP. I usually go to Superior, but your right, $150 for a pull is steep, and if they need to jet your carb you can double that. Problem is I don't know of any other reputable shops with a chassis dyno in the OC.

congrats, sounds awesome!
just a little hint, 75% of the 'weird timing' things I hear on old stangs is just the balancer or tape not being read correctly. They usually start at -10, then 0, then 10, 20, etc .. so if it's real dark and you're having a hard time reading it or getting +10 results, verify the increments on the balancer and/or put new tape over it where it should be.

DAN! Good work! Damn, that car is coming along nicely.....How long did it take fps to take care of business once you finalized the order? Troy is a good guy...I can't wait to see your new motor.

Chris, what's up man?

It took him 10 days to get it back to me from the time I dropped everything off. He said 8, but you know how it goes. He actually came in on a Saturday to finish the engine for me because he said it would be done on Friday and wasn't. So I showed up on Sat. and he wasn't quite finished, so I hung out for a few hours and watched the last of it go together and helped out where I could then headed home at 5 pm with engine in tow and got started putting it in. Anyways, I'm stoked. I am babying it right now, but I know it is going to rip. I'm going in about two weeks to get it dynoed, that will tell the real story and I am confident this time I won't leave disappointed. Doing the removal and installation myself has made it more gratifying as well, but man my freaking back is still sore!

BTW you heading over to Knotts in two weeks?

Nice, 10 days? That's pretty fast in my book. He has my 427W sitting over there. It's been done for months! I am waiting on him to finish up a catalog I am going to print (in trade for the engine) I need to call him and give him a little prod........in fact I think I will run over there today and see whats up. I don't know about knotts, work is hectic, but I will try. Let me know when and where and maybe we can hook up. I am hoping to have my engine in and running in the next month or two. I still am trying to perfect a set of adapters so I can run the 48 IDF webers on a IDA manifold. Should be nice when it's finished.......I am excited for you....keep us posted on how it runs!

Hey, you know what? My brother races a volvo, they are having a dyno day in a couple of weeks and you get three pulls for $60. I will get you the info, might save you a few bucks if you're just looking to baseline the engine......

Let me know about the dyno day, that would be be cool. Are they doing it at superior?

Troy, I've noticed, doesn't get in too much of a hurry, so if I were you I would give him a prod. Maybe if you go and pick your engine up it will light a match under his A$$ to get you the catalog layout. One thing for sure, your car is going to be SCARY with that 427 in it. Have you asked them about fabbing up something to make the webbers work out?

Knott's is on Sun. the 17th. If you think you can break out for a bit let me know and we'll meet up.

That's cool. I'm going to call today and set an appointment for next Saturday.

It is running good. Only problems are 1. I can't adjust the electric choke because the new valve covers are so tall. I actually have to lift up the carb or take off a valve cover to get to the bottom screw. Shouldn't be too tough. 2. It stumbles off idle when you take off. Nothing a good carb tune and probably some jetting won't take care of. Other than that, when your up to speed and you drop it a gear a smash the gas it is amazing. It pulls real hard, and with a balanced rotating assem. and the main girdle I don't fear running it up to 5800-6000. Not for too long though :D It is FINALLY want I've wanting the engine package to be and it is fun!

You heading to Knotts on Sun?
