    Dropping the tank!

It's Easy. Just get the tires 4-6" off the ground. Unhook the vacuume purge tank line. Remove the sender/fuelpup to connector plug, Support the tank on wood, with a jack. Remomove the filler nect screws (4, 3 up top and 1 near the tank). Drop the tank by removing the 2, 13mm (I think) bolts...

Intake manifold gaskets: Cork "strips" or just RTV sealer?

Just ordered these intake gaskets, fel pro 1262, do you guys use the cork strips or just a bead of RTV sealer? I couldn't find the felpro blue rubber ones. Got a PN# for those BTW?

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

Well I just pulled a head off today. Backwards. Ordered some felpro graphite hg's and some 1262 intake gaskets. Do you guys use the cork seals that go from one head to the other, or just use rtv sealer?

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

Head gasket IS on backwards, Not overheating...WTF? OK? Trying here to visualize the coolent flow, into and out of the heads. The HG is on backwards, and the 2 "larger" holes where coolent passes through the block to the head are in the front of the motor. What is this doing to the motor? Why...

    clay for valve clearance

You can disassemble a stock lifter, pull out the plunger ans stack #10 washers inside, then put it back togeather. Now it's going to act like a solid lifter.

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

Just pulled the drivers side plug...There is a coolent hole there. Goes through to the block. Large enough I can fit my pinky finger in. So it must be on backwards damn it! I really don't see how this could have happened.

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

Hey thanks 84GT! So, I guess the question is, if the coolent flow path is reversed, and the car does not oerheat...Are things okay then?

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

The tabs are next to the #4 and #8 cyls. Could they be made this way? The tabs "Should" be next to the #1 and #5 cyls... These FMS gaskets look just like my felpro 1011-2's....Anf the felpro's have the tabs towards the #1/#5 cyls...Maybe FMS put the tabs on the other side so as not to have...

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

So if I had them on wrong the car would overheat. But it stays put at 180*. Here is the mech. gauge's sender location. It's always warms up to 180*, NEVER more than 190* But I'm wondering if it's possable that the head gaskets could be on backwards and have the temp be 180*, could the...

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

See, that's what I thought, therefore they are on backwards now. So if I remove the freeze plug, will that tell me anything? Coolent should flow out if the gasket is on correctly? Like I said my temp never got past 180* so.....What's up with that? Could I have warped my new heads?

    Damn! Head gasket on backwards??!

Okay I think there might be a problem here, I noticed that the "tabs" on the head gaskets that are supposed to stick out near the front -(closest to dist.) lower head bolt holes, seem to be facing the back of the motor. Like here... I am using these gaskets...

opinions on best intake for a 306

Huge heads, .650"+ lift cam with alot of duration, full longtubes (1-3/4"), Sheetmetal "breadbox" intake, 90mm throttlebody. Will have to spin 7000rpm+ So a strong/stable valvetrain is a must. Might want to think about forged crank/rods also. Trickflow "R"

Timing is at 19* / Jumps around to +40* !

Yeah the car just seems to like more timing... I take it out and drive it... But when I back off the timing at idle it starts to "break up".... That's how I got to this high timing setting in the first place...

This is the end line of my "pop" sound through the intake... http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=875345 If you are interested. I ended up at 18*BTDC...With the spout in that's like 28*. The "POP" noise was gone now. I stood back and let it idle for 5min. or so...It made the pop...
