    68-72 400 CID

400 Just to clear any confusion, the 400 is referred to as a 400, the 351 version of this engine is referred to as the 351m, because it is a modified version of the 400. Yes, it's wider, taller and heavier than a 351, and the stock heads basically suck because of the open non- quench...

Upper rear axle housing bushing swap

Besides that puller to get the old ones out, put the new ones in a cold freezer for a couple hours, then clean the inside of the loops with medium or fine sandpaper, lube them with a little WD or whatever, and the new ones tap into place rather easily with a normal sized hammer.

    Explorer intake Q's

From what I know just the Explorers had this type of intake. The other light trucks had a real "truck" intake. The lower half of the explorer is a GT-40 and is the same as on a Cobra. The upper half doesn't flow QUITE as well, but I don't know from what I've read that you'd notice the...

    95 Mustang 2 speed fan for a 351?

I just swapped a mildly warmed up 351 Lightning into my 89 Mk VII LSC, along with a heavy duty 3 core radiator. Would a 95 Mustang 18" 2 speed fan with a stock Mustang shroud adequately cool this engine? My alternator is 100 amp and I'm hoping this would handle this type of fan. I...

    AOD question.

AOD cooler lines First, if you're SURE you've got an AOD, - I understand there were at least a couple different models of automatic put in the same year light trucks. if it is an AOD, the return line is the bottom line on the trans and the bottom line on the radiator (at least it is on my...

do 94-98 gt wheels fit mark VII rotors??

    Longer pushrods?

I take it you're not getting the recommended preload on the lifters when you bolt down the rockers? (You've got the stock pedestal rockers?) Something doesn't sound quite right there, being a Ford cam, I would think it would have the same base circle diameter thereby taking the same length...

    Metric Serpentine Belt???

I just had to get a different length belt because of going from a 302 to a 351 and some juggling with non-stock accessory brackets. I forget the brand name, but it was a name brand like either goodyear or gates, and the part number included the metric length, so it seems that's fairly common?

    Baumann Electric Trans Control Users

I'd appreciate any info from anyone that's tried one of these. I read a post theother day that somewhat surprised me - it said a lot of people have had problems with them. I'd like to upgrade to a good 4R70W but then would need something like this, and don't want to spend the money if...

best temp thermostat/tuning tips... guru's all advice welcomed.....

Everything I've read indicates a 180 is the best compromise between lowering temps to help avoid detonation and keeping the oil temps up hi enuf to avoid accelerated lower cylinder wall wear. Higher temps by themselves give more power out of the same amount of fuel, but the trade off is...

Anyone with a higher mileage AOD?

Mine had 130k and was doing fine when the damned tv bushing crumbled and fell out. And that's a 4,000 lb Lincoln LSC. My wife's LSC had 198k when we parked it and had been abused mightily by our kids for awhile before that. Was feeling kinda weak by then, though. I did my own rebuild, went...

    Jack and Jack Stands

Heck of a deal on a jack and stands It was either Harbor Freight or Northern Tool (both are on line) that has a pretty hefty jack that will lift like 25 inches or more, in a package deal with a couple pretty heavy duty tall stands, for like $80 or so. I've used them a lot since I got them a...

    AOD Rebuild ?

All the different manuals I've read show a special bar that is placed across the pump mounting face in the case and used along with a depth mike to set clearances on the intermediate clutch and end play to pick the right plastic thrust washer that goes behind the pump. But - no manual...
