    This sounds really odd, but do you have any sort of hesitation miss or are you running rich? The tach is tied directly into the primary igntion system. Techs use the "tach trick" all the time for simple diagnosis of the ignition system. I'll go into more detail if you seem to have a problem.

    Well, seeing as how the tubes have somehow disappeared, I guess I'll have to remove my egr. I'll run a search to find out what all needs to be done and the effects it will on my o2 reading, a/f mixture etc. thanks for the help

    absolutely, that will throw off the balance of the fan. Carefully bend it back. Your local tire store will probably take it off no charge, just for return business. Call one up and ask them if they'll do it. The only other way, That I can think of is to reinstall the alternator and serpantine...
