Shifter rocks side-to-side under hard acceleration...

So I'm putting a few miles on my reassembled stroked '66 with a newer T5 and I'm noticing that the shifter rocks side-to-side under hard acceleration particularly in second gear. Not particularly confidence-inspiring as I'm flying down the road. The transmission mounts seem intact. The motor...

Water temperatrure range - stock gauge

Fair enough, but since the car puked out a cup of coolant from the overflow hose when the needle hit barely on the "H" when the fan didn't come on the other day, I figured the gauge was pretty close to whatever was intended years ago. My WAG is that H is supposed to be 250 degrees F and the...

Water temperatrure range - stock gauge

Does anyone know the range of the stock water temp gauge in a 66? I have the electric fan set to hold the red gauge needle straight up, but what temp is that? Thanks!

    U-Joint

When you do replace them, you may want to consider using non-serviceable solid u-joints. They are considered stronger than the ones that have hollow passages to hold grease. Seems like a good design for a modified car. I'll be doing that over here in the near future.

How-to vent window top seal replacement?

Yep on a 66, I had a glass guy out here for something else and he called the rivet-looking thing a brad. He said he thinks there's a gun or something to install them, but he hasn't seen one in many years. But if I can install it manually that's good too. Thanks!

How-to vent window top seal replacement?

I bought a couple vent window top seals with the shiny silver brads. Drilling out the old one is easy enough. Does everyone buy a brad gun or do something else here to install the new one? I figure we can use a urethane to glue the small pieces together but that seems like a last resort... To...

Back from Paint -- Blog Updated with Pix

Thanks, it is Bright Island Blue, a Ford color from a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT among others. I had seen a fastback online in this color, not sure which forum, last year.

Back from Paint -- Blog Updated with Pix

I got the car back from paint over a month ago and have been reassembling since then. If anyone is interested , I have pix up on my blog. I should have it done and drivable (more than just around the block) by the end of August... :flag: http://66restomod.blogspot.com/

    Shock Tower Braces

Not to hijack my own thread, but... Ok thanks, no problem at all. I'd put it on my blog but don't have any good pix unfortunately. We used my stock 66 filler neck then cut about 300 degrees out of it near the top leaving enough room to weld it back up. The cut was a short pie slice to get the...

    Shock Tower Braces

Following Up.... I received the Global West pieces the other day and installed them. There's a photo and brief writeup on my blog: http://66restomod.blogspot.com/2008/07/brace-yourself.html They fit great, and clear a tall MSD distributor. Not too bad pricewise either. Thanks for all the...

Seating MSD distributor -- sat flush before, now won't...

So I removed the MSD distributor today to get access to that 90-degree heater hose fitting next to it. I tried to seat the distributor back down after removing the heater hose fitting but it won't seat that last 1/4". The oil pump shaft seems to be accounted for when I look into the distributor...

Heater hose barb/fitting for Edelbrock Air Gap

Thanks! Thanks for the replies. I was actually looking at the same stainless fitting, and a straight one too for the edelbrock water pump... Didn't want to get the wrong size mailed to me. :)

Heater hose barb/fitting for Edelbrock Air Gap

I need to replace the old rusty heater hose barb on the front of an Edelbrock #7521 air gap manifold. I know the heater hose end is for a 5/8” heater hose, but what is the size and thread pitch for the threaded end? I plan to replace the rusty 90-degree end and the brass insert into the manifold...

    heat and sound insulation

I just bought dynamat extreme from amazon. 36 sq ft for $114 delivered which is pretty good. I'm replacing some spectrum from second skin audio that was on my floors. Spectrum is water-based sludge and I found some surface rust under it when I got my car back from the paintshop.

    Shock Tower Braces

bought one.... I had one like that around 1993 or so on my second 5.0 Mustang. Had to have a race car shop disassemble it and reweld it to fit a GT40 intake and 77mm mass air meter IIRC. I didn't even know they made them for classics. After reading the responses and looking online, I...

Looking to replace my Monte Carlo Bar and Export Brace with something newer, strong, and just better. Doesn't need to look stock. I'm looking closely at this one: http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/tower.html Anybody have photos of this one installed on a car? Any other suggestions for...

    Painting in the trunk

I wonder why Ford would bother painting a tank's top black, and not the bottom? Especially if it is covered by the original mat anyway. Perhaps the old tattered mat transferred the backing color to the tank over the decades in the confined heat of the trunk? There are so many small things done...
