Seating MSD distributor -- sat flush before, now won't...

So I removed the MSD distributor today to get access to that 90-degree heater hose fitting next to it. I tried to seat the distributor back down after removing the heater hose fitting but it won't seat that last 1/4". The oil pump shaft seems to be accounted for when I look into the distributor hole. I wiggled the distributor a bit to get it in there, but just bottoms out on something... Any tips? (PS - After getting a lot done on my car, this pretty much ruined my afternoon...)

Tape a socket on the end of an extension and turn the oil pump shaft a little, then it should drop right it. I think it's 1/4". Be sure to use tape, you don't want to drop the socket in ther...

If you are sure you are on the right tooth, just bump the enging over (coil wire off) till it rotates around and drops.
