First Time Builder- What Can I Expect?

Motor aside, I would expect lots of surprises. If you start tearing these cars down you will undoubtedly enter the cycle of....'well I've got it this far apart, might as well do that too'. It's only money though. Surprising how many ways you can fool your kids with Kraft dinner ;^). Good luck.

    Ride Height Question

Any pictures? I have the 4.5 mid eyes from GAT and 620 coils plus the shelby drop. No motor in yet but I'm curious to how it will sit when done. Like to see yours.

    Progress Thread Welding Nightmare

I have turned up the heat by one setting. One last small patch to clean up an ugly bit and it seems to be better. A little hammer and solely work to flatten and I'll scuff the whole seam with a Scotchbrite and then try some glass reinforced filler over top. Seems to be an incredibly fine line...

    Progress Thread Welding Nightmare

Thanks Horse, That's just what's so weird. Prior to starting my butt weld I played with the heat and wire feed on some cut-off pieces (same metal) to get things just right. Many of the welds do seem to get good penetration (nice blue haze around the tack). If I turn the heat up I get blow...

    Progress Thread Welding Nightmare

Ok so I'm tacking along the butt weld seam for the new quarter. Nice beads, everything going well. I keep moving around and waiting etc. No problem. The problem for me always seems to be when I start grinding the welds down as I'll end up with a small ridge/lip on the seam where if I grind it it...

Post Pics Of How Your Classic Mustang Currently Sits

Here my 65. Front end is done and ready for motor, car is stripped to bare metal. I wasn't happy with a lower patch that was done on the pass side and the panel also had a 'back to front' crease in it from a past crash so I said pi$$ on that and decided to change the quarter. I cut just below...

    Door Skinning Issues

Thanks Horse, I think you sold me. I had heard that the grain wasn't perfect to original which means I should likely do both doors. It's just money right!!!

    Door Skinning Issues

Must just be the visual in the pic. Checked it with a straightedge and it's dead straight. I pulled the skin off the door. Think I am just going to spend a few extra bucks and throw a Dynacorn shell at it. The door shell I used was not original to the car and it had some rust in the front...

    Door Skinning Issues

Hi Guys, Anyone have much luck re-skinning a door? I did mine yesterday and am not really happy with it. Started with a Dynacorn skin but I don't think there's any issue with that. I used a air operated door skinning tool which did not operate as easy as they make it look in the video. Right on...

Is This A 65 Mustang Gt?

Just curious as to why you want a GT so bad? I agree with the other poster about the condition of the car. For $6K it seems to be high considering what you will need to put back into it. The dash has also been cut for an aftermarket stereo. Not a terribly difficult fix but still another thing...

    Long Awaited Upgrade... (edelbrock Intake)

Nice add! I'm interested in your thoughts on the Holley 4160. Does it perform well? Thinking about the same carb for my build.

    Engine Hei Distributor On 5.0

I'll post some motor build pics as I start building it. here's the front end when I was prepping to spray the engine bay. Before and after. The whole front end is new including disc brake conversion, quick ratio steering box, upper control arms dropped 1" like Carroll Shelby used to do on the...

    Engine Hei Distributor On 5.0

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I have no problem going to a 600-650 cfm carb so that should be good. Hopefully the Ford purists can find some forgiveness for the temporary HEI.

    Engine Hei Distributor On 5.0

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you and in fact if I didn't have the HEI already I think I might go Pertronix. I have it now so I'm think of using it for the time being and will changeover once all the other small things are ironed out. As a matter of fact I'm one of those folks that can't...

    Engine Hei Distributor On 5.0

Hey Guys, I'm building a motor for a 65 Fastback. Using a 1987 5.0HO block as the foundation but it's going to be carb'd not FI. I'm using a Weiand Stealth dual plane manifold and a comp cam 35-440-8. T5 trans with a basic 480-500cfm carb. My question is..are any of you running HEI...
