Have parts for PI swap, should I check compression before install?

Well, after 3 months of saving money, I finally purchased everything I need to do the PI swap. My car is a 96 with 108K on it. It has not been raced/driven hard at all, mostly highway miles. With the bump in compression, what precautions should I check to make sure there isn't anything I need to...

A valuable lesson for people doing PI swap

I planned to do a pi swap on my 96 gt two weeks ago, but ran into a BIG problem. I was given a free set of 02 PI heads a month ago. The motor they cam off had about 90K on it. Long story short, I had a buddy take the heads to a reputable machine shop for me, and when they were tested, there were...

    Universal Catalytic Converters

+1. I bought these and had them welded on to my VRS off-road x pipe when I moved to GA because they have emissions testing here. I had a local mustang shop weld them in and the guys there told me these are the best ones to use.

    PI Swap next weekend

The heads are off an 02 mustang with low mileage. The car was hit in the rear and totaled. The heads have 60k on them. I am having a reputable machine shop look at them, so I will look into the other suggestions too. Thanks for the help.

    PI Swap next weekend

I will be doing a PI head swap on my 96 GT next weekend with the help of a friend who is a mechanic. I have spent a good bit of time on the boards getting information regarding parts I'll need, and the install itself. I do have a couple of questions before I do this: 1). I have an SCT tuner...

    midpipe help

I bought a VRS off road x-pipe for $170 a couple years ago, then moved to Georgia where they have emmissions regulations. So, I purchased 2 Magnaflow high flow cats and had a shop weld them in for me. My total cash output was about $380. Hope this helps. 96 Laser Red GT vert VRS x-pipe...

Gas smell from passenger side rear of engine bay

Well, this issue has gone from frustrating to very frustrating. I checked all the lines on the car with it running and not running and could not see where gas was leaking from, but you can definetely smell it. I checked the lines that run from the cannister I just replaced, but they are on...

Gas smell from passenger side rear of engine bay

Thanks for the help burningrubber. The smell is definetely a raw gas smell, not exhaust. It was throwing code P1443, which was for the evap/cannister, which went off once i replaced the cannister and sensor. I'll check the injectors and the fuel lines here in a little while and see what I can...

Gas smell from passenger side rear of engine bay

I have searched through the forums for about an hour and cannot find anything describing what my problem is. There is a smell of gas from the back of my engine bay on the passenger side. You can really smell it when I put the AC on. I have looked everywhere for a leak, and have found no puddles...

    Clutch Recommendations

When my NPI was stock, I would have argues that the stock 3.27 gears were about perfect for it. The stock NPI was done making power by about 4800, and the gears felt short enough. Now that I've gotten the PI intake and cams on, my little NPI doesn't mind reving to 5500-5700. Now, I can see...

    Clutch Recommendations

I put a king cobra clutch and fidanza aluminum flywheel in last year. I have been really happy with the combination, but it is stiffer than stock. My car is not a daily driver, just a weekend toy. I will say that the aluminum flywheel and new 3.73's made a HUGE difference in how quick the car...

Anyone running MAC long tubes on 96-98 GT conv?

I am looking to get MAC l/t headers for my 96 gt convertible. My question is if there is a l/t header that would clear the x-brace that the convertibles have. I read on other posts that some have left the brace off, but I would prefer not to do that. My understanding is that the MAC l/t's have...

    P0135 Code after x-pipe install

Thanks for the info. I put the MIL eliminators on the rear O2s and not the front. When you say the front heater circuit, do you have a part number for this or is this something that would be part of replacing the O2 sensors. Also, which fuse is the correct one to check? Sorry for the stupid...

    P0135 Code after x-pipe install

I need some suggestions. I recently installed a VRS o/r x on my car. I used plug in MIL eliminators to keep the CEL from coming on, but no luck, the car is throwing code P0135 Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater circuit fault - Bank No. 1. I have inspected the front O2 sensors for damage, or to...

    x pipe w/o mil eliminators

I put an o/r x on my 96 GT about 2 months ago. I used the MIL elims and I still got a CEL. My car is running terrible now. I had a friend use his X3 to turn off the CEL temporarily and the car ran fine. He said the code that was being thrown is one that the O2 sensors are not heating up...
