    302 heads on a 289

If you zero-deck the block you will get to 9.3:1 compression even with d2oe heads. IMO zero-deck should be done to any rebuild engine. 9+:1 is the minimum compression for any performance-oriented car with mild cam. It is difficult and expensive to reach higher compression in 302 due to its...

Which timing chain for fuel pump eccentric?

you have to buy matching timing set to your eccentric or new 2-piece eccentric to your 98 timing set.

moog VS SCOTT DRAKE Vs Grab-A-Trak

I have recently spent $$ on moog lower control arms from VA mustang hoping I buy a OE-like quality. It was just far from it (=junk), thin metal, non-oval shapes and other details. Their tie rods quality won't be any different. From now on I would go with refurbished OE or NOS suspension.

Anyone with a Master Power Brake Booster and Hydraulic Clutch

Whatever master cylinder you end up with must be with remote reservoir and slightly deviated not to interfere with the booster. ~ 10° towards left inner fender. it is not possible to shift the booster to the front to make space for clutch MC (because brake MC will interfere with shock tower). I...

Need help with finding correct headers

I could not fit 79+ shorties to 67 body with 302 as it was hitting the lowest block/tranny mounting point. with 351w you may have problems clearing shock tower, maybe steering box, not the aod.

    302 valve timing

those degrees are (most likely) duration at 0.05? for lobe centers it would be too late I guess. Did you have luck finding a complete list of 302 cams specs?

would/could a 2001 Mustang GT stock brakes fit a 65 coupe with Drum brakes?

if 65 has v8 spindel PBR caliper should mount nicely to it. you need 2-piece bracket, yet I don't know if anyone makes them

    302 valve timing

What are the specs of stock camshafts used in 302/5 liters? I guess there ain't too many of them. i.e. start and duration of intake and exhaust at .050, valve lifts Anyone knows?

    low compression/wide cam problem

d2OE heads (58.2cc). the cam timing is measured at .050" lift, otherwise it is 280/290. So I should rather play with valve timing instead of milling the deck/head? so: intake opens right at TDC, exhaust closes 5°ATDC, measured at .050". Would that make sense to advance intake opening to e.g. 3°...

    low compression/wide cam problem

I have long deck 302 block, and I need to gain some compression to wake up this engine. Wondering about milling those .030". Wondering how far is it possible to go? Can I have piston at TDC above the block let's say 0.01" with regular gasket 0.04" thick? The engine has some 8.78:1 (218/228...

8333 or 8548-pt2 felpro head gaskets

hows different from 8548? i.e. how many layers of steel? uses graphite as a sealing material? or rubber/silicon or other? what metal is used for rings?

8333 or 8548-pt2 felpro head gaskets

How are these two gaskets different in material they are made of? Are these okay for a street 302 or is it worth spending money on MLS-type gaskets (cometic, victor reinz e.g.) to better prevent compression leaks? (edit it's 9333pt1)

    what lower control arm?

There are many manufacturers/brands of these arms and wondering which one it is best to buy? Now I have arms with welded-in ball joint; yet I can find mostly replacement arms with riveted ball joint. The only one I could find with welded-in joints is moog no K8121. Is this rather inferior arm...

Bad idle at leaner AFR with holley

i also suspect coolant leak causing white smoke at near-stoich AFR. The engine does not go into rpm as easily as I would expect too, and is hard to start when parked overnight even during summer; it restarts easily then. Last time I noticed a pressure in the upper radiator hose. Is it...

Bad idle at leaner AFR with holley

Valves are timed 218° (intake duration) 228°(exhaust duration) at .005" (actual are 274/284 I guess), , some overlap, 0.471" valve lift. Intake opens at 0° ATDC and closes some 35° ABDC. This timing, and about 9:1 compression rate gives rather equal pressures 130 +-5 pounds among all cylinders...

Bad idle at leaner AFR with holley

I can tune the idle up to 11.5-12 AFR (AEM wideband kit). Leaning it further causes white smoke. At 11.5-12 it has a healthy sound and no visible smoke. I was able to get up to 13 with idle screw just about 1/2 turn remaining to be fully seated; when fully seated engine stops (so power valve...

    302 vs. temperature

that heat soak thing makes sense thank you the engine just turns slow, there is a rebuilt starter and new flywheel. The timing is 18 btc idle some 35 at 3000 rpm. Yet this is nothing a new battery won't fix.

    Recover seats myself?

IMO the most difficult is to recondition those tiny steel springs in front seats because 90% of them will be rusted through. Then, more than new foam and seat cover you need the canopy textile - during last 40 years it is slowly becoming a dust. I reconditioned OE seat covers with help of a...

    Value on a 65 200 and 3 speed

I don't think you will see $500 for i-6, that's what OE small blocks v8 usually cost in good running condition. Not many are looking for i6 too
