How Much HP Should I Really Have On 98 GT?

He just doesn't want to do the work...probably he's not qualified to do it. I've NEVER heard anybody that's had the headswap done complain about it.

Yeah, like an LS1 engine... :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

How Much HP Should I Really Have On 98 GT?

Immediately post-headswap, I dynoed 248/290 at the wheels (swirl dams intact).

How Much HP Should I Really Have On 98 GT?

OK, I had my '98 dynoed when it was completely stock except for a K&N. It dynoed at 196 RWHP. I doubt the K&N added anything. Neither will a cat back, no matter what the advertisement said.

    Yes, he did.

    flowmaster mufflers

Think what you want, but I noticed the reduction in low end torque immediately after the swap.

    flowmaster mufflers

Enough with all the suppositions. I had 2 chambered Flows welded into my '98 headswapped GT and lost 7 hp over stock muffs. Dyno-tested. I could feel it SOTP as soon as I left the muffler shop too. So, no matter whether they flow better or worse than stock, I lost real HP. Had to buy a...

    99+ head swap

When I had it done a few years ago, I think the whole thing was about $2400, but that included some shorty headers too, which you'll do if you take the heads off. Check out RysRedGT's threads...he just did a DIY install.

    99+ head swap

The newer heads come with cams installed (unless you buy them used from a jagoff that's copped them). You've gotta change the heads and intake, along with all the associated hardware, gaskets, etc. No, you don't need to reflash the computer.

Try smokin' something else, you'll have better results. :rlaugh:

pi headswap guys, whats your mileage?

Everything else being equal (no further mods), I really doubt you'll see a change (except due to a lead foot), in fact, it may get a little better, since the higher compression engine will run more efficiently.

    how to turn the crankshaft?

If you've got room to move it (and wheels on), put it in gear and move it back and forth until you get where you need to go...easier with the plugs out so there's no compression.

    Exhaust Leak...please help.

Yes, an exhaust leak can cause such a problem, and if ignored long enough, could cause the sensor to fail. I'd take it on down to your local muffler shop and have them tighten it up, if you can't reach it yourself.

low traps, slow ets after pi swap

:stupid: I think you'd notice a lot more problems than just poor 1/4 mile times. Your idle would be screwed up, missing on accel, etc.

low traps, slow ets after pi swap

Weird. I was running about the same after my headswap, but I was running street tires. One thing I did notice was a definite loss in power after having some Flowmasters welded into my stock system. Go figure. Confirmed by dyno numbers. Needless to say, I'm not impressed by Flowmaster...

PI Swap vs. P&P'd 96-98 Heads

Drop back and punt. If you're going to boost, why not consider the FRPP heads and intake? Yes, expensive, but probably the best route to go, especially since the intake is aluminum (if I recall correctly). Or, go with the PI heads, cut down swirl dams and a Bullit intake. Even better, and...

Hmmm...I don't see the headswap on your list of intended mods. WTF?

    Is pinging a concern?

Guys, whether you like to believe it or not (and I assume you do), these are relatively high performance engines. Very few HiPo engines will run well on 87 octane. It's funny how nobody believes things in the owner's manual, unless it's something that will save you money. It's to Ford's...
