01 Cobra Owners, Does anyone have.......

....an Aluminum Drive Shaft Installed? I was going to have one installed but I was told that Ford Racing does not make a shaft that applies to the 2001 Cobra.
I was also told that the drive shaft that 01 folks have installed by Ford Racing sits too far into the tranny and will create issues. Is this true? Please let me know. Thank you.

I had the FRPP D/S in my '01, it was a bit long & my mechanic said it should be OK. I didn't want to chance it so I just took it to a driveline shop & had it shortened & rebalanced. Cost me $75. Can't tell you what benefit it was powerwise, but it could only help I imagine.

Are you looking to JUST add an aluminum DS? Do you have gears?

The biggest benenfit is no vibration when going to steeper gears. Otherwise, IMHO, save your money or spend it on better mods.

Thanks guys for your replies. I have a Cobra 2003 Rear with the 3:55's in the pumpkin. I don't plan to get taller gears since I am happy with what I have. I wanted a Aluminum Drive Shaft to help out on the acceleration on my over weight Cobra. :-)

btw...silly question...what does "IMHO" mean?

That means it's the FRPP driveshaft. Get the FRPP J shaft, and have it shortened and rebalanced.

Before you have it cut, see if it will fit with a 1/3" clearance or so at the rear of the transmission.

If you have the 03 rear, you already have an Al shaft, unless you've had the steel one modified with a different rear yoke, OR, you have a 99-01 pumpkin in there.
