01 police package crown vic 4.6 swap?

I have an opertunity to get a low mile 01 police package crown vic motor for CHEAP! it has 120k sounds great (still in car car wrecked) looks to be a detective car or somthing not marked but deffinately police package. Anyway i have a 96 gt thats getting a little tired! 296k! will this motor swap right in and what kinda horsepower did they have? is this going to be a big step up from my wimpy 96 motor? also wanting to do LT headers with the swap what kind of power would i be looking at with OR X, CAI, AT catback and TB/Plenum?

I believe by '01 they were offering PI engines in the CV's. An "Interceptor" engine is just a run of the mill PI motor, will likely be a Romeo engine just as yours.

It will drop in the same, make the same power as a 99-04... just plan on swapping/modifying what you normally would for a PI swap.

Sweet! I'm currently running a pi intake motorsport shorty headers,Cai, Magnaflow catless x pipe, at catback. Can I expect much improvement over my current setup? I'm currently running 9.01s in the 1/8th. I'm wanting to add lt headers and a tb/plenum with the swap.

Also keep in mind that 120000 on a police vehicle is like 360000+ on a normal car. They are always running non stop most of the time, and then on overtime for road jobs they are sitting in very dusty spots again for long long periods of constant idling. run time on a police vehicle is at least 3-6 times more per mile driven. If it is a state car it might be slightly less due to the farther traveling but not by much.

I would never buy a used police vehicle for parts. just my opinion, take it for what its worth.

Why not do a PI head swap? Better still, buy some trick flow heads and nice cams and make WAY more power than that old motor?

Because I burn a qt of oil a week! Daily driver car 750+ miles a week for my commute. The pi car did not have any police markings or holes where radios mounted etc. So I don't think it ever was a police cruiser maybe detective car? Also I am getting motor for $200! The heads and cams worth that!

If you're running 9.01's with those mods, with that mileage on your engine, that's impressive.

But yes, you will see an improvement as the PI heads and cams will wake everything up.

Do some research and make sure '01 Crown Victoria's have PI engines. I want to say that was the first year, but I could be wrong. It doesn't matter if its an Interceptor, or just a regular PI 'Vic, it's the same engine.

Crazy miles on my stang and I run the piss out of it! There is not a day go by that I don't make a wot run up too 6000+ rpm and it keeps in going!

i disagree, i have a less then 60k mile 4.6 from a interceptor car. there maintance is done on hours not mileage, so there oil changes occur at around 1500 miles. i pulled the valve covers and oil pan you could eat out of that motor. i pulled the center main and incpected the bearinf and it looked perfect like it was brand new. however i would recomend doin a timing set change (gears, chains, guides, and tensioners) also heres more food for thought, cab companys eat these crown vics up, also they drive em way past 300k miles. so dont be affraid get it and do simple tune up and swap out the timing set for a new one. as far as difuculty its a simple engine swap. took me 6.5hrs. (jack stands no lift and half wore out engine hoist.)
i opted not to do a pi head swap because theres not a lot options for aftermarket cams because of ptv issues.
