280hp for the 350Z/G35 = Over rated

And yes torque plays a big factor in acceleration. The 350Z/G35 has none, they rely on there high revving power. But most of the time by then it's to late.

it seems to have more torque because it does
but you have to look at the torque curve, the gearing, the weight, a lot of different factors make the faster car not just 1 number (unless maybe a timeslip)

As you may know, I’m new around here. (Traded in my 2002 Suzuki GSXR 1000 for an 02’ GT just recently.) A buddy has a 2004 Infinity G35 (6-speed). I know that on paper this car cranks out more HP that the 02’ GT (Stock #’s: G35 = 280’ish; GT = 260’ish), but for some reason the GT seems to have more torque. Can anyone comment?

Overall engine design combined with having 2 more cylinders.

The SOHC motor was made to feel "peppy" in low rpm's to appeal to a large demographic. For instance, the average joe schmoe thinks the SOHC feels pretty stout because it's got a good amount of grunt during low rpm daily driving. The enthusiast likes it because it allows you to launch hard, or pull out of turns hard, etc.

Our high rpm power isn't something to write home about, especially being that we have a V8 but, it's good considering the amount of technology, effort and money put into the motor by FoMoCo.

This may not be the most technical reply to your thread but I've handed many G35s their asses and I'm not even blown. Froma dead stop I always pull ahead and if I don't shift quickly into 2nd and let it rip, they've got me. I think once I pass them and they hear my exhaust, they somehow think I'm packing a whole lot more and get discouraged.

I'm starting to see G35s and 350zs everywhere, they are very abundant in my area. They'll definitly put up a good fight at speed, but from a dig they GT definitly has the advantage.

yeah, I see them a lot now on the pike/270. But still, none have tried to race me. Closest I've had was a G35 sedan in NY (as I drove from MA to MD) and I -think- they were trying to race... or they were just driving fast to get somewhere fast. Not positive

I'll race ya, my parents have a G35 awd sedan, I just gotta go to their house and take it from them when they're not looking though.
I'd rather race the Mach... but I know I'd lose :(

and we should raced yesterday or the day before, it was gorgeous out. I was driving like a jerk everywhere, polluting the world :D

not sure I would agree with that at all...the SOHC motor has almost no bottom end at all compared to most V8 powered vehicles that I have driven...mash the gas at 2000 RPM in 2nd gear and you can feel it dragging. By comparison my 95 T/A could still sit you back in your seat at 2000RPM in 2nd, and sometimes could spin the tires off the line on a 2nd gear launch at that RPM. The SOHC motor seems to be all 3500RPM+
