03-04 Cobra Fuel Tank in 1998 GT

I've decided that I'm going to make this happen one way or another but I will need help figuring out what mods are needed for it to work.

The M-9002-C46 Cobra tank is baffled and comes with the dual pump and hat assembly. Ford Racing Fuel Tanks on special at BrothersPerformance.com Price doesn't seem too bad considering it comes with new pumps.

I know I will need provisions for a return feed line into the tank, but I feel comfortable I can handle that with some AN-spring lock adapters and a fire wall AN fitting with some fuel hose drilled through the hat.

But what about all the evap/emissions stuff, wiring, and fuel filler neck, etc. Will everything else work? What else needs to be modified? Has anyone done this before?

physically it should bolt up perfectly ( filler neck and mounts ) the lines are a different story. you will need a dfpd (dual fuel pump driver ) as well.. and good luck!! lol

I thought the cobras used a regular fuel pump driver module (FPDM) and that upgrading to dual FPDMs was an aftermarket thing for people who want to run dual GT pumps and stuff like that.

If your '98 is like mine, it has the '99 style "no return" fuel system. (May '98 mfg. date)

Why not just buy a fore duel pump hat and twin 255lph pumps.

Then mine is not like yours because I have a return system.

I want tank baffles. The cobra tank has baffles and comes with a stock cobra hat with stock cobra twin 119 lph pumps. That combined with the KB BAP, which I already own, will provide me with more than enough fuel and with a baffled tank.

No thanks. Info on how to get the 03-04 cobra tank and pumps to work on a 98 gt only please.

I'm pretty sure the 98 and 99-04 tanks are the same. The difference being the the 98 hat has a return provision. Other than that it should plug right in.
Just showing you other options.

If that's the case then that is awesome and I much appreciate the help.

I just don't really have any welding equipment and I have next to zero experience in welding to boot. Nor do I know the first thing about designing a proper baffle system.

Took a look at my tank over the weekend. Looks like it is like the pre 99s without the evap/emissions stuff. Looks like I have a vent on the top and one on the side that goes back up to the filler neck.

So I ordered a cobra tank and pumps from LRS last week and a few parts from summit to make a fuel return line connection to the tank.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the evap/vapor/vent fittings on the top of the tank.

Looks like I can use the fittings for the 03/04 tank and route them to my filler neck vent and carbon canister. Or I can use my vapor vent fitting for the front hole and make a custom fitting to fit into the aft, larger, hole in the tank and route a tube from that to my filler neck vent.

I'm leaning towards using the 03/04 cobra fittings if I can get them from ebay or a junk yard for a reasonable price because I don't think they would allow fuel out in a rollover situation.

I'm still waiting for the tank and a few parts to arrive, but I'll keep you all updated on the progress.

Update:

Tank is installed and working great!

LRS didn't have the tank, so I ended up getting one from ebay.

I used the two blue fittings that came with the tank for the vent and vapor fittings.

I used an AN bulkhead fitting and an AN-spring lock adapter from summit for the return line to pour into the sump.

I also had to cut the pump wire harness and splice in the one from my 98. The plugs are the same except the pins are in different locations. I went ahead and upgraded the 14 ga wire to 12 ga while i was in there.

Over all it was a fairly easy install.

Oh, and I had to use a 1998 filler neck grommet.
